HVM and Racing Stars Jos Verstappen and Ronnie Bremer Up to Speed at Sebring
First test of 2005 and Driver Evaluation on Task List
Indianapolis, IN (March 23, 2005) -- Preparing for their fifth year of Champ Car competition and coming off their strongest season thus far, HVM is in Sebring, Florida, participating in the "Florida Fling," Champ Car's two-day pre-season test at Sebring International Raceway on March 23 and 24th.
Two of Europe's finest racers made their Champ Car debut today with HVM, Dutchmen Jos Verstappen and Denmark's Ronnie Bremer completed nearly 200 miles combined, despite the less than perfect track conditions caused by wind and rain.
Accomplished Formula One driver Jos Verstappen made a first impression that his potential competitors will not soon forget, setting the third quickest time of the day with a 51.82 second lap on the 1.3-mile road course. He completed 97 trouble-free laps and wasted no time acclimating himself to the HVM Lola, "There is a lot to get used to with these cars compared to a Formula 1 car," stated Verstappen. "I have to get used to a lot of things, especially for me today getting a feel of running on cold tires and brakes. The HVM team works very well together and they are very easy to work with. I am happy with today's run and feeling pretty good. I am looking forward to seeing what will happen."
Ronnie Bremer is a product of the Champ Car Ladder System. He excelled in the Toyota Atlantic series in 2004 and demonstrated today that the Ladder System is a proven training ground. Up to speed immediately, Bremer was one of the quickest cars on track in the morning session and set his quickest time of 52.62 relatively early in the day. Due to the inclement weather he was unable to maximize his third and final set of fresh Bridgestone tires. Bremer commented on his debut, "The Champ Car is phenomenal and today was a fantastic experience. I learned a lot from the engineers, HVM is a very talented team and we were able to run quick, consistent laps without any problems. The Champ Car has quite a lot more power that the Atlantic car but it is very natural to drive and I look forward to the future."
Keith Wiggins, Co-Owner and Managing Director commented on the performance of the perspective HVM drivers, "I am very happy with both drivers, they did a great job, didn't make any mistakes and were quick from the word go."
Testing continues tomorrow, Thursday, with Mexicans Mario Dominguez and Roberto Gonzalez.
