Sports Car Champion Milka Duno to Drive HVM Champ Car at Sebring
Indianapolis, IN (September 6, 2005) -- HVM Racing, a competitor in the Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford, will give sports car Champion Milka Duno the opportunity to sample Champ Car driving in the #4 HVM/Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone today, September 6th and tomorrow, September 7th at Sebring International Raceway.
A native of Caracas, Venezuela and a resident of Miami, Duno became the first woman in history to win overall a major International sports car race in North America, with her victory at the 2004 Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series Grand Prix in Miami. In only her second year of racing Duno was named "Venezuelan Auto Racing Driver of the Year" and won her first series championship in the Panoz GT Series. In 2001 she was crowned Vice-Champion Driver in the LMP 675 class of the American Le Mans Series. A full-time competitor in the 2005 Rolex Grand American Sports Car Series, Milka drives the #2 CITGO Pontiac Crawford Daytona Prototype and earned her third Rolex Series overall win in July at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Quebec.
A qualified Naval Engineer with four master's degrees in Organizational Development, Naval Architecture, Marine Biology and Maritime Business, the last three earned simultaneously, Milka has proven her desire and dedication for achievement on and off the track. Milka is the Hispanic spokesperson for CITGO Petroleum Corporation and the face of Pontiac's National Hispanic advertising campaign. While the test with HVM will be her first in a Champ Car, Duno is familiar with open wheel racing; with experience in the Barber Dodge Pro Series, as well as the World Series Light and World Series Pro Championships -- becoming the first woman in history to score points in the European series.
Duno looks forward to the Champ Car experience; "I'm very excited and honored by the invitation from HVM Racing to test a Champ Car. The opportunity to drive one of the world's fastest and most powerful race cars is a dream come true for me and I am really looking forward to getting behind the wheel."
