BRACK RUNS FOURTH AT HOUSTON

</pre> Max Papis battled a lack of grip in on the track in the morning session. The Miller Lite car of Papis finished fourth at Houston in 1999 but radically different weather conditions played havoc with the team's proven set-up. Papis and the Lite crew adjusted for the change in conditions and improved by nearly two seconds in the afternoon qualifying. Papis qualifying effort was hampered by an off track excursion into a tire wall. The Miller car sustained minor damage to the nose and the left front brake scoop in the mishap. The worst part of the incident was Papis was penalized eight minutes of track time for causing a stoppage in qualifying. Kenny Brack made his debut on the Houston circuit by running fourth fastest in the morning and fourth fastest in the afternoon provisional qualifying session. Brack quickly learned the course and established himself as a threat for the pole.
#7 Max Papis - Miller Lite Ford Cosworth/Reynard "The weather is much different than the past two years and therefore the track conditions are not the same for our car. We improved nearly two seconds from practice but we didn't get all of our time in qualifying. I nearly put the car into the wall three times on one lap and finally I slid into the tires. We were close on the setup but I was trying very hard. After we served the penalty I got three laps at the end of the session but the traffic was too heavy to get in a good lap."
#8 Kenny Brack - Shell Ford Cosworth/Reynard "I feel pretty good about today being that this is my first day on this track. It is good to finally race here in Houston after having lived here for the last couple of years. We didn't get all of the time we would have liked in qualifying because of the eight-minute penalty that carried over from Laguna Seca. Still the car was better in qualifying than in practice. We will have to improve for tomorrow because everybody else will find more speed tonight."
