With his win today, Gil de Ferran earned the maximum 22 points (20 points for the win, 1 point for the pole and 1 point for most laps led) for a total of 163 points placing him first in the CART FedEx Series Championship.

This is de Ferran's second consecutive victory - he won two weeks ago at the inaugural Rockingham 500 - and the first time in his Champ car career that he has won back-to-back races.

This is de Ferran's first the first win from the pole (he has 15 CART poles).

Last year in Houston, de Ferran finished on the podium (third) and led the most laps (69).

De Ferran's win marks his seventh Champ car career victory, his first victory from the pole and the first time he's led every lap of the race. Five of his Champ car wins have come on temporary/road circuits.

With this win, de Ferran has finished on the podium in five of the last seven races (1st at England and Houston; 2nd in Mid-Ohio and Vancouver; 3rd in Chicago) and in five of the ten temporary/road circuits run this season (1st in Houston; 2nd in Monterrey, Mid-Ohio and Vancouver; 3rd in Long Beach).

De Ferran has scored points in 13 of the 17 races this season (76%) including the last seven consecutive events.

Helio Castroneves' fifth place finish today earned him 10 points for a total of 133 points placing him third in the CART FedEx Series Championship.

Castroneves has now finished in the top-five in six of the 17 races this season, and finished in the top-ten in ten events.

Castroneves has scored points in 13 of the 17 races this season (76%) and seven of the last eight events.

Marlboro Team Penske's six wins are the most wins of any Team in the 2001CART FedEx Championship Series.

In 2001, Marlboro Team Penske has finished on the podium in six of the ten temporary/road circuits including victories at Long Beach, Detroit, Mid-Ohio and Houston.

This is Penske Racing's 110th race win.
