CHAMPCAR/CART: Houston: Saturday qualifying quoteboard

Sebastien Bourdais ...

Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonalds Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"Well, yeah, it did. Basically we just succeeded to match what we had done in the 15 minutes, which obviously the track gets better. No, I think there was a ton more in the McDonald's car and I was very happy with the balance. But I got one lap in the 15 laps or 14 laps we've done. So it was quite hard. I was pretty darn sure that we were actually not going to get the pole. I guess everybody ran into the same problem. The track is a minute long. When you have a red flag, everybody goes out at the same time. It's just the head of the pack catches the tail in three laps, meaning right when you start to be fast. This time we got pit out, which usually is good. But I was the first one to hit traffic, then I had to try and fall back down the pack. You know, ended up apparently screwing around with Will and everybody else. There was just no room for me. It was like I was not allowed to go on track today."

Will Power #5 Aussie Vineyards Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"It was a good session. Like everyone says, it was really hard to get a lap. Everyone keeps backing each other up. Then you go for it and you catch someone. But we have a bit of a shifting issue which is costing us on the straights. I think we had a car handling good enough to get pole today. I just didn't -- just didn't really come together. Yesterday we used reds. Something broke on the car. That's why we actually went slower on reds yesterday. You know, I think tomorrow's going to be another good race for us. Hope for a clear start. Obviously the chicane's a little bit less tight this year, so I think it should be less issues there. You know, we look forward to challenging Sebastien. Hopefully we don't have a race like last week where we got held up for the whole race and Sebastien just had an easy time."

Justin Wilson #9 CDW Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"It was simply working on the setup, getting more comfortable with the car, getting the car to my liking. In qualifying, I'm sure you're going to hear it lot throughout the press conference, but getting a clear lap is very difficult. On lap 12, I managed to get a clear one. I put in quite a good time. I knew there was plenty more in it. Unfortunately that was the end of the session. You know, I think we can get a bit quicker. I don't think we had enough for pole position today because I know all three of us were saying the same thing just back there a minute ago. We all got held up. It's how it goes. It's luck of the draw. Just pleased that we got half a decent lap in."

Oriol Servia #3 INDECK Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"Well it's a good result for us, we would have liked to have been a couple of spots farther up the grid but we just couldn't get those last few tenths out of the car. We've been improving the setup all weekend and we are getting pretty close to where we have to be, I think we'll have a pretty strong car tomorrow. I know the Forsythe Team will give me great pit stops and we proved last weekend that we can move up through the field so I'm expecting another great result."

Graham Rahal #2 Medi | Zone Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"Qualifying was really disappointing for the Medi | Zone team. We have a better car than this. It was difficult to get a lap out there. And frankly the lap that I did have, which would have probably put us third, which was the last lap, both Will (Power) and Robert (Doornbos) blocked me so that was it. It's just disappointing because they weren't on good laps so they should have gotten out of the way but instead they decided to ruin mine. I think we've got a good race car; I think we can drive around most of the guys that are in front of us. Honestly Seb is the only one who I think has got a much better race car than we do. We were very consistent in the pre-quals. Everybody ran new tires and we ran old tires and were third. The car felt really good doing those speeds. I think in the race we're looking pretty good."

Simon Pagenaud #15 Aussie Vineyards Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"We had some issues right at the beginning from the warm-up until the end. We had the car to do it for sure. I thought I could do it on the last lap, but unfortunately the red came out. The Aussie Vineyards car is right there. Everyone has been doing a great job, my engineer Mike Pawlowski and my whole Team Australia crew. It will happen for us one day. I think it will be good to start for us tomorrow and have a different strategy and we can show up front for the race and hopefully bring the team home a podium."

Mario Dominguez #7 Telmex/Banca Mifel Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"We really thought we were going to be quicker so it's a little frustrating We've been making a lot of changes but we just haven't been able to find the grip that we need. Tomorrow is a very important day for me, I need to push as much as possible and be fast and consistent so I can give the fans a great show and a great result."

Bruno Junqueira #19 Sonny's Bar-B-Q Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"We just couldn't find a good way to go over the bumps on the track today. We tried our hardest to figure it out, but we couldn't come up with an answer at this time. I was pushing the #19 Sonny's Bar-B-Q car hard the last few laps of qualifying until I spun at the end. I think that I could have maybe moved up a couple positions if that wouldn't have happened. I just need to drive a consistent race tomorrow like I have during the first two races of the season. If I do that I know that I will be there in the mix at the end of the race."

Alex Tagliani #8 LXN2 Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"We are obviously disappointed with our qualifying result this afternoon because we are not where we wanted to be. We made a lot of changes this morning, but they did not work out the way we were hoping. In the afternoon, we made some more changes to the #8 LXN2/RSPORTS car to get our car closer to that of Justin's and the car is definitely the best we have had all weekend. Despite that we are just not there all the way. The car has been difficult to drive all weekend. I have been experiencing a lot of locking up so that has been a challenge. But we will keep working on the car and hopefully tonight and tomorrow morning in warmup, so we will be able to get a car that will be good for the race. We will try to have a good race strategy so that we can get the #8 LXN2/RSPORTS car back upfront."

"Speedy" Dan Clarke #4 Ticketmaster/Synapse Power/The Australian Pink Floyd Show Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"It was a bit of a messy qualifying session for us. I was on my first run, Katherine (Legge) spun in turn four and blocked the track. I came around the corner and, in trying to avoid her car, brushed the wall with my right front wheel. I came into the pits to make sure everything was okay with the car, and then went out for my final push with about eight minutes remaining. We had a good car, but then a red flag came out while I was on my flying lap and ended the session. I know we have the speed to be competitive, and it's frustrating we didn't get to show it today, but sometimes that's just how things go. It's reassuring for the race tomorrow, however, that we know we can keep the pace of the guys up front."

Robert Doornbos #14 Muermans/Jumbo Supermarkten/Mediamall Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"I felt reassured after the final practice session this morning that we would be quite quick. Unfortunately, the qualifying strategy didn't play into our hands. I couldn't get a clean lap, as I kept getting stuck in traffic. The red flag at the end then prevented me from finishing my final run and ended any chance of setting a competitive lap time. Sometimes everything just seems to go against you, and that was the case this session. We're not where we want to be for the race, but tomorrow is another day and we'll just go for it -- I want to be competitive."

Matt Halliday #42 42 Below Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"I think since yesterday we did not make as much progress with the car as I hoped. We just need to find another half of a second. It is difficult with one car to find the direction we need to go but we are going to keep working hard. We are not miles away and once we find a good combination of small things, we will get a little more speed out of the car. This afternoon we will have a good debrief and see what we can do to improve for the race."

Ryan Dalziel #28 Pacific Coast Motorsports Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"I can't think at the moment, my brain is rattling in my head! Good thing for pitlane as it gives you a break for a minute. We are struggling for sure. We'll continue to pick-away at it. Our goal was to improve our qualifying and we didn't meet that goal unfortunately. The last few races we've had good stops, we need to make sure we are there at then end and we should do well."

Roberto Moreno #29 Imperial Bank Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"I think it was a fantastic first day for us today as we were able to get a lot done. The engineers worked hard to make things comfortable for me and they did a good job. We got a lot done as far as development and I think we have found a very good racecar for tomorrow. This is a hard track to learn in a short amount of time but I am satisfied with our achievements today. This was my first time trying the red tires. We got a lot out of them, but we definitely did not maximize them, I think there is another half a second there. It is going to be an extremely tough race, similar to Miami. It is going to be a race of survival, the drivers who make the least mistakes will be there at the end, having a good race car will be essential."

Katherine Legge #11 Dale Coyne Racing Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone

"We think we have found the solutions to the problems that have been plaguing us so far this weekend. It has really been a struggle for us. We finally got the #11 Dale Coyne Racing car to the point where we should have been at to begin the weekend. For the first two races of the year we have had to overcome some difficulties in practice and qualifying. But the team solved those difficulties and gave me a great car on race day which I drove to a 6th place finish in Las Vegas and 10th place finish in Long Beach. So that is a positive thing going for us. We learned a lot today that will help us for the race tomorrow. My team is great and I know will have a great day tomorrow."
