Grand Prix of Houston
JAGFlo Speedway at Reliant Park, Houston, Texas
April 20-22, 2007 - Round 3 of 16
Race Details: Timed event - 1 hour, 45 minutes. Track distance is 1.69 miles (2.72 km).
Television Broadcast: Live - Sunday, April 22, at 3 p.m. EDT on ESPN.
Bridgestone Potenza(tm) Tires Supplied:
* 546 primary (black-sidewall) dry-condition slicks; 176 alternate (red-sidewall) dry slicks; and 304 wet-condition (rain) tires.
* Each car receives seven sets of primary tires, two sets of alternates and four sets of rain tires for the race weekend.
* In a normal dry-condition race, each car must use at least one set of primary and one set of alternate Potenzas. The primary and alternate tires' construction is identical, but the alternates possess a tread compound with better grip ("softer"), making them faster but possibly not quite as durable.
* Bridgestone Motorsport is bringing its softest, or highest-grip, primary, alternate and rain Potenzas to tackle this temporary street circuit. Both the primary and alternate Potenza specs are identical to those used at Houston in 2006. This weekend marks the third straight '07 race where the same Bridgestone primary spec is being used. The alternate spec for Houston was also used at Las Vegas two weeks ago.
From Al Speyer, Executive Director, Bridgestone Motorsport: "Houston is Champ Car's third temporary street circuit in as many weekends, allowing us to bring two very familiar and proven dry tire specifications. The primary Potenza is the same as has been used the past two weeks and was run at five races last year, including Houston. The alternate spec was also used five times in 2006, including Houston, and was the alternate for the '07 season opener at Las Vegas. The recent grinding of the track surface should increase grip, but along with the switch from a nighttime to daytime event, will have the Bridgestone engineers and technicians monitoring tire performance closely throughout the weekend. We expect no issues, however, and look forward to another exciting race."
