It was a day of mixed results for Honda-powered CART FedEx Championship drivers in qualifying today at Nazareth Speedway. Helio Castroneves$ and Adrian Fernandez led the way, with Fernandez picking up just over 10 mph in speed since yesterday's opening practice sessions.

Paul Tracy and Tony Kanaan also posted top-ten qualifying runs today, despite changing weather conditions that saw yesterday's record heat give way to cool morning showers followed by a gradual warming. Teams using Lola chassis appeared to have a slight edge today, with the top four speeds all recorded by Lola-mounted drivers.

Dario Franchitti and Gil de Ferran both reported understeer during their qualifying runs to line up 12th and 15th, while Michael Andretti fought oversteer to slot 15th. Further back on the grid, Shinji Nakano will make his first-ever Nazareth start from 19th in the second Fernandez Racing entry, while Alex Zanardi was forced to switch to his backup car after mechanical problems with his primary machine in morning practice and will start 21st.

Helio Castroneves (#3 Marlboro Team Penske Honda) Qualified 5th: "We improved the car from yesterday, but made sixth gear I little bit too tall for our qualifying run. I'm not very happy right now, but in a little while I'll realize 'hey, tomorrow is another day', put it behind us and get ready for the race. I believe we have a very good race car. We just need to stay focused, take care of the equipment and bring it home in the points tomorrow."
