A record-setting heat wave throughout the northeast did little to slow down Long Beach race winner Helio Castroneves today, as the Malboro Team Penske driver led the Honda-powered field in practice activities today for Sunday's Lehigh Valley Grand Prix.

Teammate Gil de Ferran and Team KOOL Green's Paul Tracy also posted top-ten speeds today at Nazareth Speedway, the shortest track on the CART FedEx Championship Series circuit at just under one mile in length.

Tomorrow's action will include a final practice session at 9;30 a.m. EDT, followed by single-car qualifying at 1;30 pm. EDT. And after three days of 90-degree temperatures in eastern Pennsylvania, the thermometer is expected to drop sharply overnight with Saturday's high forecast only in the mid-70s.

Helio Castroneves (#3 Marlboro Team Penske Honda) 3rd fastest today:

"Today basically was very hot, tropical weather, really, like where I come from (Brazil). We're also running less downforce than we had here last year and I think those things combined to slow down the limes today. Tomorrow should be cooler, which will increase the downforce and make things faster, but will still be tough. I don't think you're going to see too much 'follow the leader' racing this weekend. We worked on both qualifying simulations and long runs today, so I feel we are in good shape for qualifying tomorrow."
