Honda Extends Australian Pact

(February 28, 1999) - Honda Australia has assumed title sponsorship of the Australian round of the FedEx Championship Series for an additional two years, it was announced Friday by John Cowley, Chairman of the Honda Indy, and Honda Australia Senior Director Neal Robertson. This year's event, scheduled for Oct. 14-17, has been titled the Honda Indy 300.

"I can think of no more appropriate Naming Rights sponsor than Honda, an organization whose name is synonymous with quality motor vehicles, motor sport research, development and racing," Cowley said. "The stability and prestige accruing from association with the Honda organization cannot be over-emphasized." Said Robertson, "As a business opportunity, the Honda Indy 300 is a clear winner for Honda, giving us a great promotional launching platform for our products. It also is a very enjoyable event to be involved with."

Honda signed on as title sponsor of the 1998 Australian FedEx Championship Series event during its 50th anniversary, intending it as a one-time investment. However, the company was so impressed with last year's event that it immediately opened negotiations to extend its sponsorship beyond 1998. The current agreement includes a three-year option which is open to negotiation.
