In front of a sold out crowd, CART's first German-American team finished the day sixth fastest, of the 28 Champ Cars that took to the track. American Champ Car driver, Bryan Herta consistently ran in the top-ten throughout the session, at times the fastest car on the track.

Herta on the session:

"I am happy with the car. It is tough to find the ideal set-up because the surface is nothing like anything we are used to, but I think we found a good balance for today. The track conditions will be very different by Sunday. Every lap, the track changes quite a bit. I think we'll see very close racing on Sunday, the guys will really be pushing each other for sure."

Tony Brunetti - General Manager: "The track will improve every session. At this point you will need a crystal ball to see how the track will shake out."

Steve Dickson - Team Manager: "I am pleased with today's performance. We were in the top ten throughout the session, it's just a matter of getting the track up to par at this point. We should be all set for a good qualifying session."

*The morning Champ Car practice was shortened to just 18 minutes, due to unsatisfactory track conditions.
