Bryan Herta, #77 Ford Cosworth/Reynard:
"We had a problem with the fuel pump* at the start of qualifying. Unfortunately this puts us that much further behind for tomorrow. We found some things after the practice session, and I think the car would definitely have been better for qualifying. I'm disappointed. Obviously we haven't really run before this weekend, and every lap is so valuable. Our goal was to get in the fast group [in qualifying] for tomorrow. This hurts. We're down, but we're not out yet."
Tony Brunetti, Vice President and General Manager:
"Unfortunately this is nothing we have any control over. The fuel pump is a sealed unit, and apparently something internal failed. It is disappointing to be in the first group for qualifying tomorrow, but it is what it is and we'll do the best we can."
*In the end, it was a fuel pressure transducer failure.
