Herta Seca: A two-time winner from pole position, and three-time pole sitter, Herta will make his seventh Champ Car start at the historical raceway, this weekend at the Honda Grand Prix of Monterey. Herta's first start at Laguna Seca came in 1995 at the age of 25 when he started second and finished 25th. Herta's first appearance at Laguna Seca with Team Rahal came in 1996 when he started and finished second. Herta returned to Laguna Seca with Team Rahal in 1997 and earned his first pole position at the raceway, he finished sixth. Herta returned with a mission on his mind in 1998 where he started from the pole and earned his first Champ Car victory. Herta's performance at Laguna put him in the record books, as he was one of only two drivers to score maximum points (22) at an event in the 1998 season. Herta made a carbon copy appearance in 1999 when earned a back to back victory from pole position, his second Champ Car victory. In 2000, Herta made his 100th Champ Car start at the raceway, when he qualified fourth, led one lap, and finished fourth while driving for his own team, Forsythe Championship Racing. This was the only Champ Car race the team competed in for the 2000 CART season. In his 120 Champ Car starts, the young American has led 398 laps, 226 of those laps have come at Laguna Seca Raceway.
What is it between Herta and Laguna Seca? Come and ask him for yourself this Thursday, as Herta is the featured guest on the CART Hotline Radio Show. The show will be recorded live at the Seaside Embassy Suites Hotel in the Cyprus Lounge at 5:00 PM on Thursday. The show is open to the public and questions are encouraged.
Herta's Stars: Watch for a major announcement this weekend at Laguna Seca in which Herta will participate.
Herta on Laguna Seca: "The first question everyone asks me when it comes to Laguna Seca: is what is it about the track, and how can I explain it? The truth is, I can't explain it. It definitely is one of my favorite tracks and my best results have come there. However, I have had a really good car every time I have run there. I would say part of that is because I feel like I know the track very well and I am "in tune" with it, but it also definitely suits my driving style. I love the tracks where you have to throw the car around, the physical tracks, and Laguna is definitely one of those tracks. This race was a "one-off" for my team last year. We found out we were going to run there about a week prior to the race and we borrowed a car from Team Players. The guys did a fantastic job getting everything together, we started and finished fourth, and in the end I think the weekend was a huge success, it very satisfying for me personally. This year we have run the whole season, it has been tough, it has been up and down, but we know the job we have to do here at Laguna, we have the information from last year, and a victory is definitely our goal."
