It's been a disappointing weekend for Bryan Herta and the Zakspeed/Forsythe crew. Herta struggled with the handling of the car throughout the weekend, a common complaint among drivers throughout the paddock at Belle Isle.

The Zakspeed/Forsythe crew took advantage of an early yellow on the sixth lap, due to contact between Michel Jourdain and Alex Zanardi, bringing Herta in to top off the 35-gallon fuel tank. The track returned to green conditions on the 21st lap, with Herta in 21st position, where he remained until the 22nd lap.

On lap 22, Herta reported tire problems, losing a position to Tora Takagi. Herta's position fluctuated over the next ten laps as the leaders pitted. Herta made his second stop of the day on the 38th lap, when he welcomed four fresh tires, and enough fuel to finish the race. Having not completed a pit stop in the last two races, the Zakspeed/Forsythe crew did an excellent job. Herta returned to the track in 21st position, just before the track went under caution, when Alex Tagliani made contact.

"I am driving the wheels off, and sliding all over the place reported Herta on the 40th lap during the full course caution. Herta gained another position during the caution, as Bruno Junquiera's car stopped on the track. The race re-started on the 46th lap, with Herta in 16th position. Chasing Shinji Nakano for position, Herta set some of his fastest lap times until Oriol Servia made contact on the 57th lap, causing three additional laps under caution. Herta was told by his crew that he had plenty of fuel until the end, and that he was faster than the two cars in front of him (Nakano and Fernandez). With that in mind, Herta took the re-start on lap 60, charging for a points-paying position, but lost control of the car after getting into the marbles and made heavy contact, finishing his day on lap 61. Herta was uninjured in the accident.

Herta on the Race:

"We have been really struggling all weekend. It was getting toward the end of the race, and I was trying really hard to get us into the points. I got into the marbles a bit and just lost it."
