Herdez Drivers Fast at Sebring
Indianapolis, IN (March 29, 2004) -- Herdez Competition wrapped up their final test before the start of the 2004 Champ Car season Friday. Herdez drivers Ryan Hunter-Reay and Mario Dominguez ran at the top of the charts throughout the test, Hunter-Reay clocked his best time Friday afternoon when he ran a 50.60 and teammate Mario Dominguez set his Friday morning when he clocked a 50.90 second lap, neither driver used the new "push-to-pass" feature when setting their fast times.
Preparing for his third Champ Car season, Dominguez completed 375 miles over Thursday and Friday. Dominguez is pleased with the progress his team, led by crew chief Daryl Fox made at the test and over the winter, "I can tell my team has worked very hard over the winter, they have done a great job at our tests and our pit-stops are even better, I think the consistency in our group is going to pay off when the season starts in Long Beach." Sebring was Dominguez's third test with his new race engineer Michael Cannon, "Mike has taught me a lot the past couple of months and we communicate very well. I have confidence in my car. We have developed some things in our set-ups over the winter that will benefit us this year for sure. It was a long off-season but I am glad we had this series of tests just before the season starts, it gave us a final opportunity for a systems check, to make sure everything and everyone is in top form and now I am warmed up and ready to go!"
Herdez Competition's latest addition, Ryan Hunter-Reay feels well prepared for his debut as a Herdez driver, he tested Wednesday and Friday and completed over 450 trouble-free miles "it was a great test for me, I learned a lot, as a group we learned a lot. We spent a lot of time testing aero, dampers, geometry, everything you can think of. Will (Phillips race engineer) and Tom (Brown, technical director) are always several steps ahead of the game, I am lucky to have such a strong group to learn from. My crew spent a lot of time working on pit-stops, I am really impressed, they are very good at what they do. Even though I have not been with the team long, I feel very well prepared for Long Beach, I can't wait, I am counting down the days!"
The 2004 Champ Car World Series kicks off at the 30th running of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, April 16th -- 18th. For more information please visit www.TeamHerdez.com.
