Extended yellow-flag periods shortened today's 100-lap scheduled race to 98-laps; competitors were shown the checkered flag two hours and ten minutes from the time they took the green. Herdez Bettenhausen driver Michel Jourdain battled from his 21st place starting position to finish in 6th with the assistance of strong fuel strategy and pit work by his crew.

Michel Jourdain, Jr.
"The car was really good all day long. I was able to save a lot of fuel which really helped us when we were getting ready for the second pit stop. I was able to run with the other guys around me and still save fuel so that we were able to wait until the pits opened during that caution to come in for our fuel and tires.

"I feel bad for Adrian that he went off but for sure we didn't come together. It was close but I braked before he did and locked the brakes to keep from hitting him. I'm glad I didn't touch him because I wouldn't want to gain any positions that way.

"It was really tough to pass out there today. The track was really slippery on the re-starts but it's tough on everybody. At the end, I thought I was a little faster than Oriol (Servia) but I couldn't get around him. That's the way it is at this track you have to play it smart, plan your attack and take opportunities when they arise.

Jourdain's 6th place finish earned him eight CART FedEx Championship points, giving him 24 and moving him past his 20-point total from 2000. Jourdain has increased his point total in each of the six seasons he has competed in the series.

"I'm really happy to pick up these points today but hopefully there are many more points for us before the end of the season. It is great to cross that mark but there's lots more work to do!"

The CART FedEx Championship Series teams return to their home bases for just a few short days before loading up for the flight to Europe. The next two rounds will take place in Germany and England on September 15th and 22nd respectively.
