INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (January 24, 2001) - Herdez/Bettenhausen yesterday completed a two-day shakedown test at Sebring International Raceway with driver Michel Jourdain, Jr. at the wheel.

Jourdain completed over 200 incident-free miles of testing over the course of the two days, though he was forced to retire early on the second day with an oil leak. Jourdain's best lap time of the test (51.10 seconds) came on used Firestones.

While low temperatures and windy conditions presented the team with a less than ideal testing environment, Managing Director Keith Wiggins was very satisfied with this initial run of the new Ford Cosworth/Lola package.

"We went to Sebring to baseline the 2001 Lola chassis against our 2000 data and evaluate some basic chassis adjustments not post the fastest times," Wiggins noted. "This is a brand-new car and, as usual, you have to shake it down a bit to get the kinks out. Given those parameters, we're quite pleased with the results."

Jourdain was also pleased. "I was very happy with the test. We just got the car five days ago and the crew did a great job getting it ready in time for the test. The 2001 Lola feels a bit different from the 2000 but by the end of the test it was getting better and better all the time. It was only a shakedown test but I think it gave us a good base setup for our upcoming road course tests."

After receiving its second Lola chassis this week, Herdez/Bettenhausen will continue it's 2001 pre-season testing program on February 8th and 9th at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Fla. Testing will proceed on the road courses of Laguna Seca and Firebird later in February.
