INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (February 23, 2001) - Having completed their final two days of testing prior to the start of the 2001 CART FedEx Championship series, the Herdez Bettenhausen team today arrived back at their Indianapolis home-base.
Driver Michel Jourdain, Jr. left the test with his confidence high after completing approximately 200 miles over the two days with a best lap time in the high 50-second range. After a quick trip to his home in Mexico City, he will spend a few days with the team early next week as they finish up their pre-season preparations.
"I feel like the team is in great shape for the start of the season," commented Jourdain. "We tried many things on the car that we wouldn't want to do in the pressure of a race weekend. Overall, our testing has been good this winter. We have our two primary cars shaken down and we haven't encountered any significant problems. I'm excited and looking forward to getting to Monterrey and getting started!"
Chief Engineer Tom Brown concurred, "The test was trouble-free. Most significant was that we focused on testing in the heat of the day with the goal of replicating the conditions we'll be faced with during qualifying in Mexico in two weeks. The ambient temperatures in Florida were in the upper 80's and the track temps were quite high so we feel like we have a good sense of what the car and Michel can produce under those conditions."
Meanwhile Jourdain has been kept busy with a variety of media appearances and interviews leading into the debut race on his "home" track in Mexico. He is scheduled to appear on WJR 760 AM radio in Detroit on Sunday, February 25th (8:20pm Eastern) and on RaceLine Radio Network in Canada on Monday, February 26th (7:25pm Eastern - see www.raceline.ca for station information).
