TEAM KOOL GREEN'S DAY ENDS EARLY

MADISON, Ill., (May 23, 1998) - Team KOOL Green's Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy did not complete the opening lap of the Motorola 300 at Gateway International Raceway. Franchitti spun and slid up into the wall. His hard luck set off a chain reaction, which also forced Tracy and Richie Hearn from the race.

Tracy slowed, got hit from behind and then was pushed into Christian Fittipaldi, causing heavy damage to his front suspension and right sidepod.

Dario Franchitti, #27 Team KOOL Green Reynard/Honda/Firestone: (Started 5th / DNF)

"I was loose coming out of turn two on the first lap. I came down behind Tony (Kanaan) and got a bit of a tow then pulled out a little bit. I braked and the car got a bit twitchy. I caught the first slide. I caught the second slide. Then on the third one it just went. I tried to light up the tires to keep it out of the wall, but it didn't happen."

Paul Tracy, #26 Team KOOL Green Reynard/Honda/Firestone: (Started 15th / DNF)

"I didn't see what happened, but it stacked up in front of me. Trying to slow down I got hit from behind and pushed into the cars in front of me. I broke the front suspension on both sides of the car. Both cars out on the first lap, I really can't believe the bad luck we're having."

Barry Green, Team KOOL Green owner: "These races are hard and the guys are going to drive hard. We had two very competitive cars and two very good drivers. Dario had an incident that caused a chain reaction. It's just a very bad day for Team KOOL Green to have both guys out so early in the race."
