ED NATHMAN is no longer the team manager for Newman/Haas Racing, effective immediately, and "therefore he will not represent Newman/Haas Racing in the capacity of team manager at the two remaining events in Australia and Fontana."

The news came in a terse release from the team late Friday afternoon, on the eve of departure for Surfers Paradise.

His duties had included overseeing both race cars, driven by MICHAEL ANDRETTI and CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI, as well as the race strategy and communications for Andretti, race weekend logistics, and planning the team's testing schedule. In the interim, the duties will be shared between assistant team manager.

JOHN TZOUANAKIS, and BRIAN LISLES, Andretti's Race Engineer. Lisle will handle the radio communication/strategy for Andretti for the races.

Nathman first worked as team manager for the team from 1989 through 1992 during which time Andretti won the 1991 CART Championship. Nathman later rejoined the team, prior to the 1998 season. He is single, just turned 49, and hails from San Antonio, Texas.
