TORONTO - Team KOOL Green driver Dario Franchitti will start sixth for tomorrow's Molson Indy while teammate Paul Tracy will line up in the number eight slot. Franchitti clocked a fast lap of 108.727 mph (58.109 seconds) to earn his position on the 1.755-mile temporary street course in downtown Toronto, while Tracy posted a lap average 108.692 mph (58.161 seconds).
Gil de Ferran, who was fastest on Friday, earned the pole position today with a lap of 109.942 mph (57.703 seconds).
Tomorrow's 95-lap race starts at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, and will be televised live by ABC-TV. All times are Eastern Daylight Time.
PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
(8th with a lap-average speed of 108.629 mph / 58.161 seconds)
"It went OK, but I'm not super happy because we didn't seem to improve the KOOL car on the second set of tires. The first set of tires was my best run. We made a change to the car and I felt it was going to be better because I went out (after the red flag for Andretti)and ran pretty quick on old tires. Then we came in, put new tires on and the car just never really handled the same again. It's a little disappointing because I felt for sure I could get in the 57-second range pretty easily, but it didn't happen. We've got a decent starting position and we'll see what we can do. ON STARTING BEHIND TEAMMATE: There really is no strategy. The first corner is always pretty hectic and there's usually a little bit of fireworks. I just want to try to pass a couple of guys on the first lap and kind of settle in and start working away at getting to the front."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
(6th with a lap-average speed of 108.727 mph / 58.109 seconds)
"We're not 15th, but we're not first. It was very difficult to get a clear lap. It's the same for everyone, but traffic was just a nightmare out there. We went the wrong way on the setup. We tried to cure one problem and we created another and didn't get the first one fixed. It's just very frustrating. We were almost as fast this morning when we were on very old tires. The track is at it's best now (qualifying) and we didn't take advantage of it. But I know we've got a good race car and the Team KOOL Green crew always gives me great pit stops, so I'm confident we can get to the front."
