Forsythe Championship Racing Continues with Post-Season Testing Program
Indianapolis, Indiana -- December 1st, 2006 -- Forsythe Championship Racing will head back to the MSR Houston Road Course December 11th-12th to continue its testing program in preparation for the 2007 Champ Car World Series Season. Adam Carroll, Simon Pagenaud and Jay Howard have been selected by the Forsythe Team to drive their Lolas B2K00 around the challenging 2.4 mile Texan facility.
Adam Carroll is no stranger to Champ Car; he tested this year with the RuSPORT Team and was selected to be a reserve driver for Justin Wilson at the Champ Car Season Finale in Mexico City. He was Honda Racing F1's test driver in 2005 and 2006 and also competed and won races in the GP2 Series.
At the beginning of the 2006 Champ Car Atlantic Season nobody could've predicted who was going to take home the $2 million dollar prize for winning the Championship. In an extremely competitive field, Simon Pagenaud's speed and consistency paid off as he was able to clinch the Championship at the season finale with 1 Victory, 6 Podiums, 1 Pole Position and 9 front row starts. Pagenaud previously competed in the World Series by Renault in 2005 and was a runner up in the Formula Renault European Championship in 2004.
Jay Howard won the Pole for his first ever Indy Pro Series race at Homestead, he went on to win the 2006 title by 4 points, the closest margin in series history. His Championship run was highlighted by 2 Victories, 5 Podiums, and 2 Pole Positions. Howard's career also includes championships in the U.S. (2004) and United Kingdom (2003) in Formula Ford Zetec.
"I feel great about having the opportunity to test with a team like Forsythe. I've been working really hard on my physical training lately so I can be in top shape and give it everything I've got. Next week I'll travel to Indianapolis to visit the team at their shop and it will be a good opportunity for everybody to get to know each other and spend some time together before we get out on the track. Champ Cars are a lot of fun to drive, it's a good driver's car and you really have to hustle it around. This year I've gotten to know the Champ Car World Series up close and it is definitely the championship where I want to be next year."
"I'm honored that the Forsythe Team has decided to give me this opportunity. I know many of the members of the Team and I am very aware of how hard they work, I want to be able to show them that I can do the job well and that I can give them good feedback so we can have a successful test. MSR Houston is a very physical track but I know I'm fit enough to drive the car so I'm not worried about that, more than anything I'm just going to have to get used to the speed and to the brakes of a Champ Car. It's great to be able to get some testing in before the Christmas break, I'm just going to do my best and we'll see what happens."
"For me this is a great opportunity, I mean as far as I see it the Forsythe Team could get anybody they want whenever they want to test their car and they chose me so I think that speaks volumes of what they think of me and it reflects on what I've done over the years and I'm very happy about that. I know I'll do as good a job as I do with everybody else and I'll be the fastest guy on the track. I've never driven a car like this before so I'll have to figure out the bits and pieces and where the limit of the car is. I'm fitter and stronger than I'll ever been, basically I've been preparing for this call for the last six months, I know I'll be good."
Phil LePan, Team Manager
"This will be a good opportunity to get back on track and help the team continue its preparations for next year. We still have some miles on our engines so we want to make sure that we can get as much track time and test as much as possible before we get the new Panoz cars. We will continue working on the test plan that we started this week so we can get the most amount of data in."
