HILLIARD, Ohio (April 24, 2000) -- Following an announcement made on March 16 regarding the team's withdrawal from the 2000 CART FedEx Championship Series pending a franchise issue resolution, Forsythe Championship Racing team owner Jerry Forsythe today reiterated that his Hilliard-based team is moving ahead with plans to return to CART competition.

"There have been a lot of rumors circulating about our status," said Forsythe. "My position hasn't changed. I am still working to secure a franchise for this team. In the interim, we are putting the infrastructure in place for a solid program in 2001.

"Everyone on this team has been assured that their positions are secure. We are laying the groundwork now in terms of equipment for next year. We are looking at the possibility of building a new race shop in Hilliard. We are concentrating on some innovative programs in the marketing and public relations areas. Over the course of the next few months, there is a lot of work to be done to come out of the box with the strongest program possible next season.

"Bryan's [Herta] outstanding performance last week at Long Beach only enhances our determination."

Herta marked his 2000 race debut with a fifth-place finish at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, substituting for Walker Racing's Shinji Nakano who is recovering from a testing accident. He will continue his driving duties for Walker Racing at the Rio 200 on April 30.

"I had an opportunity to sit down with Jerry over the Long Beach weekend, and we talked about our future together and the future of the team," said Herta. "While I don't want to discuss the particulars, I feel very confident the team will remain intact and I look forward to a strong future together."
