BRYAN HERTA -8- Shell Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 3rd - "I am happy with the run. I don't know why we couldn't go faster on the second set of tires. The car was pushing like crazy on the second set. We didn't have enough time to get heat in the tires when we went out right before they threw the checkered flag for the session. We were going to give it a shot but we ran out of time. The race tomorrow is going to be wild. I think the turn at the fountain, where a few guys have had trouble already this weekend, is going to be interesting. If somebody gets jammed up there it tends to block the whole track and that's going to be a worry point. Also just trying to keep your nose clean and work through traffic is going to be more difficult here now."

MAX PAPIS -7- Miller Lite Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 4th - "We are very happy with the way the Miller Lite car is running. We are not there at the moment completely but we are learning a lot and this place is going to be a very important race for us. Considering that this was the first real qualifying we have done on a road course with Team Rahal I think we have done very well. We still have a bit of understeer and we need to work that out. I tell you, I am super happy, the second time starting on the second row is like a dream for me. The track is a bit narrow in parts but no one is going to win the race on the first lap. It's the last lap that counts. I was out there using the walls a bit on my quick runs. They helped me go fast."

ADRIAN FERNANDEZ -40- Tecate/Quaker State Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 6th - "We made a big change at the end to get the balance better and it worked. I needed to do one lap and that's all it took. This is a very twisty track and it takes a lot of concentration. A good finish for us here is important especially after what happened to us in Miami because we need to catch up in the points."

P.J. JONES -20- Visteon Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 15th - "I am much happier than I was yesterday. We got our act together today. We really struggled yesterday and I didn't get the best out of it that I can. Traffic hurt us a little today. I had a few good laps put together but ran into some guys on the track that tripped me up a bit. But the Swift is coming along and we are in the ballpark."

MICHAEL ANDRETTI -6- K Mart/Texaco/Havoline Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 12th - "I ran into some traffic on my fast lap and the time would have put us about sixth. Passing here is going to be very hard. It's going to be a typical street race where qualifying is going to be important. When I was on my fast lap I was pumped. One thing that was promising that came out of the session was that we were as fast on used tires as we were on new tires."

CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI -11- Big K Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 11th - "The engine stopped when I was going through the hairpin at the end of the session. We had a good time going when that happened. Starting from 11th is going to be difficult because that's where trouble usually happens."

MICHEL JOURDAIN, JR. -19- Herdez/Viva Mexico Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 23rd - "I think we were going to do a lot better than what we put on the table. The car is a lot better but we still have a way to go. The Lola is a very good car and this morning I think we proved a lot but we didn't put it together for this afternoon."

LUIZ GARCIA, JR. - 71 - Tang Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 27th - "We lost a lot of time on the track this weekend so far battling gearbox problems. I wish we would have had some time to test on a road course before coming here but it won't be until after Rio that I will test on a road course. I need all the time I can get out there to learn the cars limits and how to get the best out of the tires, engine and chassis combination because I am still learning it."

GUALTER SALLES - 34 - Payton-Coyne Racing - Qualified 25th - "We are running a 1998 Lola and are struggling a little bit as compared to the 1999 Lola's. We still have a long way to go. We have some understeer in the car but the engine is running very good. Hopefully for tomorrow on full tanks we will be more competitive"
