Team Player's driver Patrick Carpentier was the biggest bullet in the Ford gun during the run for the Miller Lite 225 pole on Saturday.

Carpentier, who posted the fastest time in the morning session, tried a new line around the 1.032 oval in an attempt to find the few hundredths of a second that would allow him to notch the second pole of his career. However, the gamble didn't pay off and Carpentier will take the green from third spot on the grid.

MICHAEL ANDRETTI -6- Big Kmart/Texaco/Havoline Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 10th - "Everything went wrong for us today. It started this morning when we crashed the primary car. The crash was more of a setback for me than for the car. In qualifying I didn't get the most out of it in turn one and two and in turns three and four I had a push. It's tough to come back after having a morning like we did today but the race is a different story."

CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI -11- Big Kmart/Route 66 Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 5th - "We were obviously way off yesterday. I was definitely not comfortable in the car by any means. We were loose big time. We made some changes overnight and they helped a lot. We should be in good shape here. One thing we need to do now is finally grab some of those points we missed out on early in the season."

PATRICK CARPENTIER -32- Player's Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 3rd - "I tried something new going into turns one and two. When I hit the bump the car got a little sideways and in turns three and four I tried it again and got crossed up a bit and lost some time during my second lap. My first lap was very good. I think we have a good racecar and we will be able to keep up with the rest of the guys. We really want to have a good run here. It will be good for me and the team." IF YOU GOT CROSSED UP IN TURNS ONE AND TWO, WHY DID YOU TRY IT AGAIN IN TURN THREE AND FOUR? "Because it was a qualifying lap. If it was the race I wouldn't do it. But for a qualifying lap, I did it. Both ends of the track here are different and I didn't think it would do it again, but it did."

ALEX TAGLIANI -33- Player's Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 13th - "We struggled yesterday with the setup. We really started this morning where we should have been yesterday. We will just keep focused and work on the setup for the race. The Player's team came here with two different cars and yesterday night we tried to go in the direction of Patrick (Carpentier's) car. We struggled at first but we got it to the point where we are comfortable with the car."

MAX PAPIS -7- Miller Lite Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 9th - "This is a very exciting race for us with Miller being headquartered here. But I don't feel any extra pressure because of it. We do what we can all the time. We are very fast in turn two. I feel pretty good about the race. Look for the Miller car up front tomorrow."

KENNY BRACK -8- Shell Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 16th - "We are not totally pleased with our qualifying run. Come tomorrow I think we should be in pretty good shape. We worked on our race setup quite a bit yesterday particularly getting the car comfortable when passing, so I think we will be okay."

ADRIAN FERNANDEZ -40- Tecate/Quaker State Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 19th - "The car was loose and jumped out on me which cost us a lot of momentum on that lap and the following lap as well. It's a shame. I am not too happy with the car yet and we have been working on something and hopefully we will find it in time for the race tomorrow."

ROBERTO MORENO -20- Visteon Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 7th - "I am very, very pleased with the run. We have a much better car today than we did yesterday. My engineers worked very late last night until about 9:30 p.m. and they came back today with a really good setup. We need a little fine tuning on the car but compared to where we were yesterday, we made a big improvement. All year the Visteon team has done a great job on race strategy and in the pits. We will try to make the most of it. We are still learning about the car but if we would have had this setup yesterday we would have been running for the pole."

TARSO MARQUES -34- Panasonic Ford-Cosworth - Qualified 18th - "The car was better than it has been all weekend but we still have some push in it. The car was fast but we still need to work on the setups."

DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU ARE BEGINNING TO GET A HANDLE ON THE SWIFT? "We are making progress little by little. We knew it would be hard work, I just hope we get there soon."
