Ford Named Official Vehicle of New Chicago Speedway

CHICAGO, Ill., Feb. 10, 1999 -- Ford Division, in conjunction with its Chicagoland Ford Dealers, will become the Official Car and Truck of the new 67,000 seat Chicago Motor Speedway in Cicero, Ill., it was announced today during the Ford Division press conference at the annual Chicago Auto Show. The multi-year agreement allows for a Ford vehicle to pace the field at the one- mile oval for the inaugural CART FedEx Championship race in the Chicago area when the green flag is dropped on the Target Grand Prix of Chicago on August 22, 1999. Ford cars and trucks will also pace other races as they are added to the track's lineup. "This is a great opportunity for Ford and the 92 Chicagoland Ford Dealers. Chicago has always been a great sports town and I am certain they will welcome big-time auto racing with open arms," said Sam Scott, Ford Racing Marketing Manager, Ford Division. "The Chicagoland Ford Dealers have many sports marketing opportunities available to them. However, they feel that racing gives them something that football, basketball, baseball and hockey cannot, and that's the opportunity for fans to see Ford actually competing in the event on the track. I think their commitment to this program says a lot about how much racing has grown and where it's going," said Scott. Conrad "Connie" Kowal, Vice President of Marketing and Broadcasting, Chicago Motor Speedway, sees the Chicagoland Ford Dealer's participation with the speedway paying dividends down the road. "We are very proud to be associated with a company as involved and committed to racing as Ford and their local dealers here in Chicago are. They are going to be a great partner and will be an asset in helping establish Chicago Motor Speedway as a world-class racing facility," said Kowal. In support of the inaugural FedEx Championship Series event at Chicago Motor Speedway, the Chicagoland Ford Dealers will also host a Ford Fan Appreciation Day during the week of the August 22 race. Fan Appreciation Day allows fans the opportunity to see the cars and stars of the CART FedEx Championship Series. The event will also allow fans the chance to obtain driver autographs, partake in question-and-answer sessions, purchase racing merchandise, and participate in interactive racing displays. Ford is currently the "Official Truck of NASCAR" and holds Official Vehicle status at Atlanta Motor Speedway, The Milwaukee Mile and Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International Raceway, as well as Official Truck designation at Daytona International Speedway, Darlington Raceway, and Talledega Superspeedway.
