Fontana, CA (October 27, 1998) -- The Marlboro 500 Presented by Toyota will climax a weekend of exciting events at California Speedway, here are just a few:
History on Parade
A vintage racer at last year's Marlboro 500
History in the making, of course, is only possible because of history made. Throughout the weekend, California Speedway will celebrate milestones in the proud, 20-year history of CART Champ Car racing and its American single-seat racing predecessors going back another 70 years. Several eye-popping examples of yesterday's technology will be on display in the Historic Champ Cars parade laps and exhibit. Check out the front-engined beasts of yesteryear; the first, pre-turbocharger-era rear-engined cars (those which Mario Andretti remembers well); and the winged, 200-plus- mph, four-wheeled arrows that heralded the dawning of the new aerodynamic era.
International delight: Sweet sounds of music bands from several countries will highlight the FedEx Championship Series weekend.
Walk of Fame
Having won the Inaugural Marlboro 500 Presented by Toyota in '97, Englishman Mark Blundell's name and a plaque featuring his likeness will be added to the Speedway's Motorsports Walk of Fame at a special ceremony at Gate 14 on Friday, Oct. 30. All California Speedway guests are invited.

Wine Tasting Veteran
Team owner Frank Arciero (Arciero-Wells Racing) and retired superstar Mario Andretti are known to enjoy a delicious glass of fine California wine now and again especially one with a label bearing their respective names. To that end, over the last several years, each of the Champ Car racing notables has invested heavily in a premium California vineyard. Marlboro 500 Presented by Toyota guests will have a chance to sample the fruits of the Arciero and Andretti vineyards alongside products from several other notable California wineries during the CART FedEx Championship Series season finale weekend. Guests are invited to stop by the Speedway Wine Tasting booth near the Infield Suites area.
The food will be hot and tasty in CA One Services' new motorsports-themed restaurant opening this month inside one of two shiny new terminals at the fast-growing Ontario Airport. The flagship Speedway Cafe will salute the goings-on at Penske Motorsports nearby, state-of-the-art California Speedway. The stunning new eatery will recreate the trackside experience via an auto racing theme decor that includes a dazzling, checkered-flag studded entrance, a wall-mounted Penske Champ Car and tire-track wallpaper.
Among the many display items: a checkered flag signed by all of the CART FedEx Championship Series drivers; gloves autographed by Marlboro Team Penske star Al Unser Jr.; the last driving suits worn by the retired Dan Gurney and Juan Fangio III; a Joe Gibbs Racing crew shirt signed by Bobby Labonte's crew; and much more.
