CHRISTIAN FITTIPALDI, #11 Big Kmart/Route 66 Ford Lola:
FINISHING POSITION: 6th
"The car was only okay. We couldn't attack today. I was on the defense all of the time. That was all we had in the car. It was pretty rough out there. We came here pretty confident but we weren't as competitive as we hoped we would be. Australia has typically been one of our strong races and I hope it will be again this year. We were hoping to be the Texaco/Havoline sponsored drivers in Winner's Circle today Jimmy and Juan (who have Texaco/Havoline associate sponsorship) represented them there."
MICHAEL ANDRETTI, # 6 Big Kmart/Texaco/Havoline Ford-Cosworth Lola
FINISHING POSITION: 13th
NOTES: Andretti dropped from 3rd place in the CART FedEx point standings to a two way tie for fourth place with Adrian Fernandez. Both are 26 points out of first place to Gil de Ferran (153).
"This is a tough track for me. (Alex) Tagliani drilled me in the back and then it set off a traffic jam. I was the last guy to be started and it dropped us a few laps back. I was turning in (the corner) and boom! He drove right into the back of me. He probably hit that bump and locked his brakes and drove into me. I had to come in to check out the suspension and everything. Then I had to come back in a second time because I drove over a big chunk of metal and we had to check for damage and change the front wing. This definitely hurt us in the Championship. The front runners will need to run into some trouble in the last two races. I'm not going to make any predictions on our chances in the last two races at this point. At some point though, our luck has to turn around."
