Adrian Fernandez, Owner/Driver -- #51 Tecate/Quaker State/Telmex Honda/Reynard/Firestone:
Finished: 12th Qualified: 15th

"My car was the best at the beginning, but after that it was very difficult on the restarts. I had too much buildup on my tires and I just couldn't clean them, so I was very slow on the restarts. Our strategy of saving fuel initially went out the window because my tires were really dirty and I had to catch up and use fuel. Basically it was a follow-the-leader strategy at the end, but the car was just not quick. It had no grip, wasn't forgiving and was basically a really bad car. I was just trying to stay there. Shinji was giving me a lot of pressure at the end. He was a lot faster than I was. I was trying not to make a mistake on the exit of the corners so I didn't get passed. In the end we got a point which is good. It's a shame that Shinji had that problem with the refueling. I think he could have finished in the top 10 easily today. He did a good job all weekend."

John Ward, Chief Engineer/Race Engineer -- Fernandez:

"We had a little bit of a struggle this weekend with the penalty in qualifying and also another one in the warmup this morning [from Long Beach]. We recovered a bit and got a point today. We would have liked to have run better, but at least when we get to Portland we won't have any of those penalties to deal with and we will be on a little bit more even footing. We are making points and that's what is important right now. We'll run better at Portland."

Shinji Nakano, #52 Avex/Alpine Honda/Reynard/Firestone:
Finished: 13th Qualified: 9th

"The problem that we had in the pits cost me a lot. I lost everything on the first stop. After that we really couldn't have a strategy. We couldn't do anything. It was bad luck, and we will fix this problem for the next time. The car was good in the beginning. We didn't change the tires on the second stop and the car was really hard to drive especially on the restarts. At the end, I didn't want to take any risks to try to overtake Adrian. We were competing for 12th and 13th position and it wasn't worth the risks."

Tom Anderson, Owner/Team Manager:

"We had a fitting come loose on the refueling valve which opens the valve. That's a mistake that we need to repair. We just made a basic error this weekend. We'll redesign before we get to Portland. It's an easy fix. It probably cost Shinji a sixth or seventh place finish depending upon how that all would have run. We gave away a lot of points today on Shinji's side."
