CLEVELAND (July 3, 2003) -- The Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford and the series' most recent winner Adrian Fernandez (#51 Tecate/Quaker State/Telmex Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) were recently highlighted on the National Geographic Channel's documentary "Dangerous Jobs: Need for Speed" which began its nationally-televised broadcast schedule on Wednesday evening.
A significant portion of the hour-long program-- which is based on the life of a race car driver-- tracked Fernandez through his recovery from injuries sustained last season in Surfers Paradise, Australia, to his return to the cockpit in the season-opening Grand Prix of St. Petersburg in Florida.
Much of the footage used in the documentary was shot on location at Champ Car World Series events in both 2002 and 2003. The broadcast also features interviews with Champ Car drivers and series medical personnel, including Director of Medical Affairs Dr. Steve Olvey and Chief Orthopedic Consultant Dr. Terry Trammell.
The documentary will air again in its entirety on the National Geographic Channel Saturday, July 5 at 2:00 p.m. ET and again Wednesday, July 9th at 3:00 p.m. ET.
Catch all the stars of the most diverse open-wheeled series on the planet at this weekend's U.S. Bank Presents The Cleveland Grand Prix Saturday night July 5, or watch the broadcast by CBS Sports Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. SPEED Channel will show Friday qualifying live, beginning at 8 p.m.
