Third time is a charm for Fernández Racing in Milwaukee Adrián Fernández posts fastest unofficial time.
West Allis, Wis. After a two-day delay due to rain and windy weather conditions, Fernández Racing finally managed to turn a wheel at the historic Milwaukee Mile circuit today, concluding a successful test in preparation for the June 2 race... the next round of competition on the CART FedEx Championship Series schedule.
Adrián Fernández and Shinji Nakano completed over 427 laps on the 1.032-mile oval under sunny skies with temperatures hovering in the low-60s (F). The pair were joined trackside by Patrick Carpentier of Player's/Forsythe Racing and Cristiano da Matta of Newman/Haas Racing. Fernández, who finished fifth at the challenging Milwaukee circuit last year, posted the fastest unofficial time of the day.
Adrian Fernández, #51 Tecate/Quaker State/Telmex Honda/Lola/Bridgestone:
"It was an excellent test. We were fast straight out of the box, and we set the fastest time. It was pretty cold in the morning, in the low 50s, and very windy at some stages, but we were good throughout the whole day and Shinji was also right there. We tried a lot of things today and it was just a very good test. We were here for two extra days because the weather wasn't cooperating, but it was worth waiting."
Shinji Nakano, #52 Alpine/Mitsuba Honda/Lola/Bridgestone:
"It was a long day but a good day. I had a loose car at the beginning, but we worked very hard on finding a better setup. We tried different things and found a pretty good setup. I think this is going to be a good starting point for the race weekend in Milwaukee. It was a good test and we learned a lot."
Tom Anderson, Co-owner/Managing Director:
"It was a pretty good day, a good test. I was impressed with Bridgestone's new tire. There's definitely more grip and it really held up well. Honda had a great test in that between the two cars and the two days, today and at Elkhart Lake, we ran over 900 miles."
Today's outing marked the last CART test of the year for Fernández Racing. The team will return to its home base in Indianapolis for the remainder of the month to prepare for the four CART events that comprise the June calendar. Both Adrián Fernández and Shinji Nakano plan to visit the Brickyard tomorrow to cheer on their fellow drivers during Indianapolis 500 Pole Day qualifying. Sponsor appearances, media activities, fitness programs and a bit of R&R will occupy the remainder of their month.
