The initial tests for the CART- Series on the EuroSpeedway Lausitz carried out last Monday proved to be successful.
Over a distance of 200 miles, that means around 320 km, Alex Barron from the Team Dale Coyne Racing scorched around the 2 mile track in his 850hp rocket over what was virtually up until then un-driven Superspeedway tarmac. The Team Dale Coyne Racing is owned by Dale Coyne who was himself previously a racing driver. Several hundred spectators revelled in the opportunity to see the Champ Car drive furiously around the Superspeedway.
The 31 year old Californian, who up until 2000 was contracted to drive for Team Dale Coyne Racing, achieved increasingly faster lap times and top speeds with each subsequent start. "The track is simply fantastic, amazing! The Superspeedway is perfect for a fast Champ Car race. I reckon the top drivers won't need more than 35 seconds to complete a lap." said an exhilarated Alex Barron as he completed his test.
The test results provided not only Team Dale Coyne Racing with important insights and details into track characteristics such as tyre wear , fuel consumption, aerodynamics and vehicle handling. The information will also be shared with the other teams. This will all go to help in the race preparation for the European Premiere in September. Team boss Dale Coyne was also totally enthusiastic: "The fans can look forward to a real festival of motor sport here. The track allows plenty of chances for overtaking manoeuvres. They have built an exceptional and unique course here, and the investors and the county of Brandenburg can be really proud of what they have achieved."
The German 500 takes place on the 13th to the 15th of September 2001 on the EuroSpeedway Lausitz. The signed and sealed contract for the CART Inc. series extends up to and including 2005.
