JOURDAIN JR. GRABS HIS FIRST POINTS THIS SEASON
Herdez-backed driver Michel Jourdain Jr. achieved his first points in the season after finishing seventh in the Texaco/Havoline 200 race. This is his best result in the FedEx Championship Series; his previous best was a 10th in Vancouver in 1998.
During the first warm-up lap, Michel Jourdain Jr. pitted because his throttle was sticking. The problem was fixed and he had to start from the back of the field. But, due to the incident on lap 1 the race was red flagged and the officials called for a new start. This time, Michel was allowed to start from his original starting position on the grid (18).
Michel Jourdain Jr., Car #19 Herdez/Payton-Coyne Racing Team: "I am very happy because this is my best result this season and for the first time in '99 we've got some points (6). I hope this will be the beginning of a series of good results. In the turns the car was very good, but it had a lot of downforce and this made it difficult to overtake. We were close to getting a perfect balance."
Regarding his visit to the Medical Center, he said: "I had to go to the Medical Center after the race, because my left hand was swollen. That's why on the last 10 laps it was very difficult to turn, especially to the right. The doctor said that probably it was a cramp in the muscle."
