The West Edmonton Mall Grand Prix Presented By the Brick

Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "We have to improve in Edmonton or we won't win the championship, that's for sure. We benefited from the mistakes of others but they are not going to make mistakes every year and we weren't the quickest car last year and I hope that we made progress in the winter to try to bring things to the front. It's a physically demanding race. The working load is higher than in Cleveland (airport course) which is already a pretty tough one. The pikes on strength is actually not any higher but you just sustain a much higher level of intensity inside the car so you are just wearing yourself out and its very bumpy so it tends to make it harder to control the steering which makes it probably the toughest race of the season. We had a very good start to the race last year the first 20 laps were pretty hectic. I did my best while quite a few people seemed to take it easy like they did this year in Houston. The McDonald's car felt pretty good so I just went for it but then by Lap 35 or 40 I started to feel the effort and I really had to pace myself and take car of everything; the car and myself. It was a little bit of a different story because there were two speeds in this race. The first was attack and then kind of, watch and see what was going on. I guess everything went our way when people made mistakes one after the other and we had a good pit stop strategy and we just worked our way back to the front."

A.J. Allmendinger #7 Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "The last few weeks have just been amazing, the whole Forsythe team has been great to me, they've given me great cars and great pit stops, my engineer Michael Cannon and I work great together, we are on a roll right now. Obviously last year I didn't really feel like winning at Edmonton so I crashed while leading, but I think this year I'll just go ahead and stay in the lead until the checked flag comes out."

Justin Wilson #9 CDW Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "The whole Edmonton track is unique, because it's set on airport runways, but it also features some permanent corners like a traditional road circuit. Last year, the race was very well received by the fans in Edmonton, and it was only the first year of the event. I think the location is perfect, and it should be a great event again this year. After last year's disappointing result, the entire CDW Car 9 team and I are anxious to get back to Edmonton and try to finish on the podium."

Alex Tagliani #15 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I'm really excited to go to Edmonton for many reasons. I love the track, it's a very physical track and it's not easy to pass. There are a lot of high speed corners which make it very difficult, but I'm not too worried about it because our car ran well there last year. This year will also be interesting because they have changed the track to make it more challenging, which should make for a nail biting race. Last year the promoters did a fantastic job of organizing the event and the fans are very enthusiastic, so I really look forward to going back. Edmonton is one of my favorite races because I have a lot of friends there that I don't get to see very often. My friend Georges Laraque who played for the Edmonton Oilers, and just signed with the Phoenix Coyotes, along with my friend Steve Charbonneau who plays for the Edmonton Eskimos will be there and I can't wait to see them both. On top of that we came away from Toronto with an amazing result and I'm pumped because the team did an awesome job. I'm so impressed with the way everyone worked together, I'm so proud of them. I hope to bring them home a podium finish this weekend."

Andrew Ranger #27 Tide Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I really enjoyed Edmonton last year despite everything that happened. It is a great place to race and the fans are incredible. I would just really like to be able to finish the race this year and hope that the weekend gets off to a better start! The car has been getting better and better with each race and I think we can put in a good performance this weekend. The team works really hard and they deserve a good result."

Paul Tracy #3 Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "I'm really looking forward to the Edmonton race, especially after the progress that we made in Toronto. We scored the team's first 1-2 in three years, and there's a real positive air at Forsythe at the moment. The team is very strong at the moment, the cars are good, we've had great results, we are definitely the team to beat. We've been doing a lot of development work lately which should help for the next few races. Last year we qualified and finished third at Edmonton, I know I'll have a fast car and I feel optimistic that I can get my first win of the year this weekend."

Cristiano da Matta #10 RuSPORT Ford Cosworth / Lola / Bridgestone -- "I am excited to go to Edmonton because RuSPORT dominated the weekend there, last year. I know the victory slipped away from the team on the last couple of laps, but I believe that we are going to have a very good starting point this year, and I'm hoping to have a very good weekend. Hopefully we will get the win this time around that slipped away from us last year."

Bruno Junqueira #2 Newman/Haas Racing Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola -- "I didn't go to the first race in Edmonton last year but I watched it on TV. All the drivers told me that it's one of the nicest tracks of the year so I'm looking forward to racing there. It was a good race and it looks like the course it pretty exciting. To prepare for the event I will work with my engineers and look at the data from last year. Sebastien won the race so I hope we have a good baseline setup for the car. I will look at the gearing, where he braked and try to simulate that in the first session. Last year the drivers told me it was the most physically demanding track of all. They got pretty tired at the end of the race so I'll work out extra hard between Toronto and the week before to prepare. I heard that last year they had a great crowd; full every day and that was a big thing. I hope we're going to have another good crowd again this year."

Nelson Philippe #4 CTE Racing-HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone --"I am so excited to go back to Canada, especially Edmonton because the fans were so appreciative of us last year that I feel we need to put on a great show for them again this year. The team has been doing an amazing job and I have been able to put in some strong runs lately, but we are still looking for another podium finish. I think everybody in the paddock sees us as a threat to the podium every race, and it has energized the team and me a lot. My confidence has definitely grown these last few races and it feels so great to be so competitive. The Edmonton track is very similar to the Cleveland track where we were very strong so I know my car will handle well and my crew always do an amazing job in the pits so I know we will be there at the end on Sunday. Since I turn 20 on Sunday, I would love nothing more than to give myself a nice little present."

Oriol Servia #6 Gulfstream Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I am looking forward to going back to Edmonton. I had a good race there last year, starting fourth and finishing second, so I am looking forward to getting back on the track and continuing the momentum the Gulfstream -- PKV Racing team has going. I know we had some bad luck in Toronto, but overall the hard work the team has put in and development we have done to the car is really paying off. We can see the results in our qualifying efforts and in the races. It is also going to be great going back to Edmonton because of the fans. They were unbelievable last year. So many people came out to support us and the race even in bad weather. I also understand they have made some significant changes to the track, which should make for a more exciting race."

Will Power #5 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "Edmonton is very fast, which is just my style. From tapes I've reviewed on the track it's a European style circuit. I did a lot of racing on that type of track in Europe, so I've practiced it a lot. I think the Aussie Vineyards car will be really strong on this circuit as well. It maybe a hard track to overtake, but that will make it a more interesting race. Luckily I have a veteran teammate, Alex (Tagliani), who has been giving me a lot of pointers, and we both are on a fourteen hour plane ride to Australia and back this week which is great because I can bleed as much information out of him as possible. He's been really helpful and he knows a lot about the track. This should be an exciting and hopefully positive weekend for the team. I'm really confident and ready to go racing."

Dan Clarke #14 CTE Racing-HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I had a tough weekend in Toronto which left me just wanting to get back in the car to continue with the learning process. I'd just like to be in the car every day, as I know there's so much more to extract from it, and from me. We go from new track to new track and it's full-on from the moment I arrive. I'm getting totally immersed in it all and loving every minute. I've only seen the Edmonton track from watching last year's race on tape last week. There's only so much you can gain from this, but it's better than nothing -- I'll know where the pits are at the least! As always my job is to get to grips with the track in the practice sessions, put together the best laps possible in qualifying and bring the car home with the best result I can. I'm ready for this and just want to get to Friday as soon as possible, so I can get back in my car."

Katherine Legge #20 Bell Micro Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "Last year the Edmonton race was a great event. I was very impressed with the crowds and the atmosphere. I was particularly impressed with the fact that the fans not only came out, but stayed on Friday in the rain. This is going to be an exciting event for me. It is a new challenge because even though I won there last year in the Atlantics it is, again, going to be the first time I have run a Champ Car on the Edmonton airport street circuit. I am, obviously, happy I won there last year and I like the track...but, the biggest attraction for me is the West Edmonton Mall, which I think is the largest in North America."

Charles Zwolsman #34 Mi-Jack Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I like going to Edmonton, I had fun last year. The crowd is amazing. It was raining last year on the Friday and the stands were pretty filled out. It's nice to see how appreciative the fans are. I enjoyed the track in Atlantics because it's a fast track with fun technical parts. I just hope we can carry on from Toronto, it hasn't been easy keeping the momentum going from race to race this season but I definitely intend on trying to keep it going."

Nicky Pastorelli #8 Bavaria City Racing/Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I am very happy to be back racing with Rocketsports Racing. Edmonton will be a new experience for me. It will be the first time I run on that track and the first time I enter the country of Canada. It is a nice track from what I have seen and heard, so I am even more excited to get back out there after missing out on the Toronto experience. I hope we can have a good result and continue from where we left off by improving even more this weekend."

Tonis Kasemets #18 Flexovit Abrasives/Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "I am looking forward to this race weekend. After the test we did last week, I feel good about myself driving the car because I was able to push the #18 Flexovit Abrasives/Rocketsports car to the limit, actually over the limit a few times, but none-the-less I learned what the limit of the car is. With that, we will head to Edmonton and try to find a setup on the car that will work for both the course and my driving style. I hope that will lead to better results, which I anticipate because I am now feeling very comfortable about my driving and my ability to really push the car."
