Morning Downpour Complicates Qualifying in Edmonton
BJORN WIRDHEIM, #4 HVM/Lola/Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone
Bjorn on Qualifying: "There is not much to say, it was a really strange session. I just couldn't believe how many cars were going off and driving into each other, I've never seen anything like it. I didn't even get a fast lap in and I didn't even push it because every time I went out, the track would go red due to another incident. I had a good practice session. Unfortunately at the end, there was a load of dirt on the track at turn six where someone else must have gone off and back on. I was coming in fast and I spun, but I turned it around and kept going and then suddenly the engine turned off. I have had an issue with that all weekend. The Champ Car Safety Team did their best to get me going again but the engine was definitely not going to start. That is something the boys at Cosworth will have to get sorted for tomorrow, because it could be a disaster if that happens during the race."
ALEX SPERAFICO, #55 HVM/Lola/Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone
Alex on Qualifying:"I was starting my third lap on the option tire and I approached turn one as normal. Mid-corner, I felt the back end snap around, I tried to correct it and I spun and hit the wall. The car was good. I was still trying to find the limits of the track. I am really disappointed and sorry for the team."
