CHAMPCAR/CART: Edmonton: Friday quoteboard

Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonalds Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 1st)

"I still have no clue what happened over there. Pushed for the whole season session, the whole morning, then on one lap it just stepped out. One of these things where you kind of, Well, all right, didn't hit anything, collect yourself, go back out there and try harder, but keep it on the right direction. No, it was a good session for the McDonald's team. It didn't look good at all for most of it. But the last two laps we did on the run, we were fast and consistent and the balance was reasonably good. So, no, I was pretty happy. Obviously, I hope Tristan doesn't suffer a major injury. But for the ones who had put a good lap on the first run, it was pretty good for us that it didn't go back green because obviously it would have been really hard to get a gap, being so far down pit lane because of our pit selection from the bad result we had in Toronto, it would have really hurt us. I was not too upset that the session didn't go back to green, to be honest."

Simon Pagenaud #15 Aussie Vineyards Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 2nd)

"First of all, it's again a very different track compared to the Atlantic because it goes a lot quicker and we're much more busy with the Champ Car. Just some corner which was flat last year in Atlantic are not. So it's just a little bit more tricky. You just need to be more on your game. You know, it's just been a very good day for us because this morning it was not that good, we had a couple issues. The whole Aussie Vineyards team has been working really, really well, making my car working for this afternoon. When we came in practice this afternoon, the car was great. I just said, That's a great car, just do a couple of change, but we're not far away. Put new tires on, it was great. Great, great feeling."

Graham Rahal #2 Medi | Zone Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 3rd)

"I've always liked the airport circuits, here and Cleveland. But at the same time, you know, I think after the last two weeks, the whole MEDI|ZONE team has taken time to recover, get caught up on some rest. I think we've come back here refocused for the second half of the season. I think it's showing. Today was an awfully good day for us. I think it's unfortunate that we couldn't run a second set of tires because I certainly think we could do better on our time, but certainly that's how it works. We're just happy to be third."

Bruno Junqueira #19 Sonny's Bar-B-Q Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 4th)

"I'm very happy with my fourth place qualifying performance today. The #19 Sonny's Bar-B-Q DP01 car was awesome today. The day started off right as we were the fourth quickest in practice sessions one and two. I think that I can give the team a top three finish tomorrow. I can't wait to get back on the track!"

Justin Wilson #9 CDW Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 6th)

"We missed out on the second run like most people. I felt that we had a little bit left in the car, but I do not think it would have been enough to grab the pole today. But, still I was looking forward to getting back out there and going for another run this afternoon. The #9 CDW car seems to be quick and we have got plenty of tires left for final qualifying. We only used one set this afternoon and we have two sets of the Red Bridgestone Potenza tires left for tomorrow. So, I think that we will be in good shape for the rest of the weekend and hopefully we can improve our time in tomorrow's qualifying, which should be quicker."

Alex Tagliani #8 RSPORTS Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 8th)

"Not knowing what the first round of qualifying was going to be like, we decided to try something that was kind of aggressive and it didn't really work out for us during our first stint. We were still in a good mood because we where in the range that we wanted to be when we decided to go back on the change we made. But then we did not have the change to go back out for our second run because of the incident with (Tristan) Gommendy. So I hope that he is ok and that he is not hurt badly, but it is going to be interesting tomorrow because after the first day here in Edmonton, I think that the car is very decent. I am excited to see what we can do tomorrow."

Oriol Servia #7 INDECK Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 9th)

"Disappointed because in the morning the car really out of the box wasn't as good as in Toronto. But we made some progress and found some speed, for qualifying the track changed quite a bit and we just went the wrong way, we ended up having a pretty bad qualifying session. It was actually a very strange session because we only got one run due to that red flag at the end. We just have to keep working at it and hopefully tomorrow we'll be better."

Robert Doornbos #14 Team Minardi USA Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 10th)

"So, that qualifying session was disappointing for us. I kept getting stuck in traffic on my first stint, and then we were waiting for the track to go back to green and they checkered it early. It's unfortunate, of course, but we'll just have to give it our all tomorrow. I guess the session ended to get Tristan (Gommendy) off the track and I really hope everything is okay with him."

Katherine Legge #11 Dale Coyne Racing Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 11th)

"I don't think my 11th place qualifying time today was able to show how fast my car can really be. I never could get more than four laps in at a time. I think that the team is headed in the right direction. This is one of my favorite tracks to drive on. Even though our setups aren't exactly the same, I think that Bruno's qualifying time today shows how quick my car can be. I'm very confident going into tomorrow's practice and qualifying."

Jan Heylen #34 Champ Car Grand Prix of Belgium Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 12th)

"We couldn't really get as much accomplished as we would have liked during today's sessions. We were going to try to make some changes during the warm up but they didn't happen because of the red flag. While I think we improved the car quite a bit between practice and qualifying today, during the session we just weren't able to produce a good time. We did have a problem with the brakes earlier but I think we were finally able to fix most of that which is good. Unfortunately, during the last two laps of the session I ran into a slower car and it prevented me from putting in a good lap at the end when the car's performance peaked. I don't think that the time you see on the screen is reflective of what we could have done today. We definitely have some work to do overnight and hopefully by tomorrow we can get the car ready for final qualifying."

Paul Tracy #3 INDECK Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 15th)

"Well today was pretty much a disaster. I can't really say much about the car or about the track because I've barely done any laps, I haven't even had a chance to really get up to speed. In the morning I went out and did a few laps and then suddenly something broke on the suspension and it took a while to fix so we were just sitting in the pits. Then we went out again and had some type of electrical problem so we had to come back in but the session was already over anyway. When I went out during the 10 minute pre-qualifying practice the car actually felt pretty good, it was definitely something we could work with. But we never got the chance to, after only four laps during qualifying we had a short in the electrical system and the whole car shut off, my crew tried to repair it in the pits but there was a lot of damage. So obviously it's a pretty poor start to the weekend, hopefully tomorrow we'll get to do more laps and see what we got."

"Speedy" Dan Clarke #4 Team Minardi USA Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (No Time)

"As for this morning's accident, the car just didn't ride one of the curbs properly and it pulled me into the wall. It was a pretty heavy hit, but the medical team was happy with my condition afterwards, so there's no problem. The guys worked overtime to repair the damage in time for this afternoon's qualifying session, and although they did finish it in the time available, an extra 15 minutes would have been great. We didn't want to risk going out unless everything was perfect, or we wouldn't have learned anything. The upside of all this is that we have good tires for tomorrow and we know we can be quick here."
