Sebastien Bourdais ...
Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I think it was a pretty big surprise to be able to bring the cars 1 and 3 in the qualifying. Last year obviously we struggled quite a bit with the speed. The McDonald's team did a pretty good effort to try and come up with something different, which we did it. The set up was not ideal yet, but we're still working on a few different changes. I think we'll get it right. It's just a matter of trying to get some testing. Obviously, this morning was a pretty short session with all the red flags. We didn't make as much progress as we would have liked to. In the end, pretty happy with the way things went in this qualifying session. It's good to get this point and this front row start. We'll try and get it better to keep A.J. behind us."
Paul Tracy #3 Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "The first run went well. We went out of the pits, got a red right away, then had to come in. Did a short run, did a good lap. With six minutes to go, went back out and went basically right into traffic. You know, I couldn't really get a complete lap without catching somebody, you know, two corners from the end. Seemed like every lap I would catch Alex. It really probably cost me a couple, 3/10ths a lap. I know there's a lot of time in the car, we just have to get the lap. The reds seem to be a lot better for me today. I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
Bruno Junqueira #2 Newman/Haas Racing Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola -- "It's a very nice track, very fast, very hard to drive. I like it a lot. This is I think one of the toughest tracks that I ever drove in my life, and funnest. It's difficult because there's just high-speed corners, so it's very easy to spin, to go off track, as you can see during the practice session, qualify session. Is really fast. I like it. It was a good lap. I mean, I got some traffic early on the last outing, then I did a lap, then traffic again. I slow down. I said I had the last lap to do it. My car was very difficult to drive, very much on the limit, oversteering some corners, understeering others. But I knew I could get the good lap. I was P4 at the time. I said, I can do a little bit better. Being top three is great first time on the track, although I pick up the track quite fast, although is a difficult track. After all my years racing in Formula 3000, had to learn the track pretty fast. I had that ability. It's very nice to be on top three on the first day to see this track."
Justin Wilson #9 CDW Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "Today was okay, but we've got a lot of work to do to be back on the pace tomorrow. We're not too far away, but there is room for improvement. We just need to work on the stability of the car, and I think it will come. Unfortunately, we got caught in traffic in provisional qualifying, and it got a bit messy. Some cars went off, as well. It's a quick track, and if you get it wrong, you're going to hit something. There isn't a lot of room for error, and it's a tough track. But I think we'll be better tomorrow."
Cristiano da Matta #10 RuSPORT Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "The car has a lot of potential. We have a lot of total grip in the car, but we just need to work a little bit more on balance. We have already made the car perform better this afternoon than it did this morning, and I think it will be even better tomorrow."
Nelson Philippe #4 CTE Racing-HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "I am a bit disappointed as I expected to qualify better but sixth is not too bad. We used our Bridgestone Reds for the second stint but weren't able to run them to their fullest potential as I got caught in traffic. We are going to have to make some adjustments to the car but I am confident that we will come back strong tomorrow and qualify further up front where we want to be."
Dan Clarke #14 CTE Racing-HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I'm pleased to be quickest rookie, as that's my goal for every session. Seventh quickest lap is a good start for us especially as I had a little traffic on that lap as well, so there is room for improvement tomorrow. I enjoyed the track today, it didn't take me long to find a rhythm and I think we have the potential to have a good weekend."
Oriol Servia #6 Gulfstream Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "The Gulfstream -- PKV Racing team just couldn't put it together in qualifying today. I mean we had the red flag right at the start of our run. That forced us to change our qualifying strategy. Then when the tire pressures came up we ran into traffic. It was just one of those days, but I am not that unhappy because I know that the car is much better than what we showed today. We will make some adjustment for tomorrow, fine tune the car in morning practice then be ready for final qualifying. I am confident that we can move up the grid."
Charles Zwolsman #34 Mi-Jack Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "The session went well, we're in the top ten and that is always the goal. It seems like the times are very close together so I think it will be a good fight tomorrow. We're suffering from a bit of oversteer today but I think we can improve the car for tomorrow, there is still some time left in it."
Katherine Legge #20 Bell Micro Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "Qualifying went well today for the Bell Micro -- PKV Racing team. This was my second best qualifying effort of the year behind Milwaukee and my best on a road or street circuit. I could have gone quicker, I know everyone else is saying that, but it is reassuring being within a tenth of a second of Oriol (teammate Oriol Servia). Obviously I like the track because I won her last year in the Atlantics. I am looking forward to tomorrow and I am very confident we can improve in final qualifying because the car feels really good."
Alex Tagliani #15 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "Coming to Canada, my home, I was expecting to do really well. I really enjoy this track, its challenging and I feel confident on the track but unfortunately we are struggling compared to last year. We are not going to give up, Team Australia never gives up. In Toronto we were in a pretty difficult position and pulled through. We need to make the best out of it for tomorrow and try to get better and I know that we can."
Andrew Ranger #27 Tide Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I'm pretty happy with how today went. With the first set of tires we were sixth but then when we went back out on the second set of tires I was stuck behind Katherine Legge and she blocked me until the end of the session. I also had Tagliani behind me and with the little time left in the session it was hard to open up a gap and I was unable to put in a good clear lap, but overall the car was good and I think we can do better tomorrow."
Nicky Pastorelli #8 Bavaria City Racing/Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone "Today was good, considering the start we had. I made a mistake during the morning practice session, which resulted in a crash. It was a shame because I was only able to get in eight laps and since this is my first time at this venue, I needed every minute on-track this morning. So that made it a little difficult to head into provisional qualifying, but I made the most of it. We improved every time we went out onto the track today. We could have ran better times this afternoon, the #8 Bavaria City Racing/Rocketsports car is capable of doing so, but I made a few slips trying to push the car as hard as I could. I think we will be in good shape for tomorrow."
Tonis Kasemets #18 Flexovit Abrasives/Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone "It is great to be back in Edmonton. The track is in good condition and the fans were out here in the masses supporting us. However, the provisional qualifying session did not go as well as we were hoping. I will continue to working with my engineers in hopes of making some improvements on the #18 Flexovit Abrasives/Rocketsports car for tomorrow and hopefully we will have a better result in tomorrow's final qualifying."
Will Power #5 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "It's really unfortunate what happened today in qualifying, because we were running really well this morning. I hit a bump, went into a massive spin and upset the rear and turned around like you wouldn't believe, then I hit the wall. We had a really good car, and I just have to rest up tonight and build on that for tomorrow."
