Testing Update: Drive-Thru Crew Concludes Sebring Testing

Location: Sebring International Raceway, Sebring, Fla. Dates: February 24-25, 1999 Weather: Sunny, mid-70s (F)

The McDonald's Championship Racing Team wrapped up two days of testing yesterday at Sebring International Raceway, logging over 260 miles on the 1.67-mile road course. Tony Kanaan set an unofficial track record in the #44 McDonald's Honda-Reynard, improving on his previous best time at Sebring by over 0.7 seconds.

"This is the best test I have ever had here in my life," said Kanaan. "We tried a lot of different things for different tracks, and I am very happy with the car. I need to keep my feet on the ground because we have a lot more to do yet, but this is a good start to the season."

Champ Car drivers Jimmy Vasser, Al Unser Jr., Gil de Ferran, Alex Barron and Mark Blundell were also testing at Sebring.

"We got through a lot of the items on our testing list," said Steve Horne. "I think we wore out Tony and everyone else. Tony set the quickest time both days, so we are leaving here pretty happy."

The team will continue its pre-season testing with a four-day outing at Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex in Homestead, Florida beginning February 28.
