GRAPEVINE, Texas (April 27, 2001) - Rookie Scott Dixon was the fastest Toyota as he lapped at more than 232 mph to place fourth overall on Friday, the first day of practice for Sunday's Firestone Firehawk 600 presented by Pioneer - the third event of the 21-race CART FedEx Championship Series.

Dixon, the reigning Indy Lights champion, is racing in his first oval Champ Car event this weekend at the high-banked Texas Motor Speedway.

Kmart/Texaco Havoline Toyota driver Christian Fittipaldi was sixth overall after running a 231.955 mph lap in the first session. Newman-Haas teammate and current CART points leader Cristiano da Matta joined Fittipaldi in the top 10 as his Texaco/Havoline Toyota registered a fast lap of 231.655 mph. For the day, the top 24 drivers were separated by just more than half a second.

Qualifying for Sunday's feature race is set to begin Saturday at 1:30 (CST). Sunday's Firestone Firehawk 600 presented by Pioneer is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. (CDT/3 p.m. EDT) and will be aired live by ESPN.
