Detroit, Mich (August 7, 1999) Notes from Tenneco Automotive Grand Prix of Detroit

Adrian Fernandez will miss tomorrow's race due to an injury suffered on Friday at Belle Isle. Fernandez had surgery last night at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Dr. Joe Baele inserted a plate and screws to close a fracture of the radius bone of the right arm. The Tecate No. 40 car entered by Patrick Racing was withdrawn from the event. Fernandez was also scheduled to race in the final round of the IROC series at Indianapolis on Saturday. He was replaced by IROC test driver Dave Marcis.

Jeff Simmons won the Barber Dodge race at Belle Isle. He finished three seconds ahead of Todd Snyder. Sepp Koster was third.

Honda has won the last ten FedEx Champiopnship Series races conducted on temporary street circuits, dating back to the 1998 Grand Prix of Long Beach, won by Alex Zanardi.

Memo Gidley, driver of the Herdez Payton-Coyne Racing No. 71 this weekend, has a two race deal with the team. Gidley will pilot the car at Mid-Ohio next weekend too.
