IN-LINE SKATERS TO DESCEND ON GRAND PRIX TRACK FOR MARCH OF DIMES AUGUST 1 BLADEAMERICA

On August 1, local in-line skaters will have the opportunity to enjoy their favorite pastime on the fastest track of all -- the Detroit Grand Prix Track on Belle Isle. While doing so, they'll be benefiting a worthy cause: March of Dimes efforts to save babies through BladeAmerica. BladeAmerica takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The entry fee is $25. Participants can qualify for prizes by raising additional funds. Pepsi and the Sports Authority are sponsors of BladeAmerica, which is open to skaters of all skill levels.

Proceeds support local community projects designed to reach young women who might not have access to health care, including Detroit-based Alternatives for Girls. The March of Dimes also supports Healthy Baby Service, which provides women in need with transportation to prenatal care visits.

All participants are required to wear helmets and other protective gear. For further information, call Sarah Hewelt of the March of Dimes at shewelt@modimes.org. BladeAmerica BladeAmerica will take place on August 1, 1999, at Belle Isle on the Grand Prix track from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

There is a $50 family discounted price All proceeds will benefit the March of Dimes People of all ages welcomed Everyone must wear protective equipment to participate in BladeAmerica Nicholas Ski & Sport will be selling protective equipment at the event, in case someone needs it
