"It was tough this afternoon to get a clean lap in with the traffic out on the circuit. We are still working really hard to try to get the balance of the car right before qualifying tomorrow."

Keith Wiggins - Managing Director

"We spent this afternoon's session evaluating the car's performance after a very limited running time this morning.* I'm confident that we'll be in a position tomorrow to improve our performance."

*Excerpt from Ford Racing Statement

"Ford learned this morning that CART unexpectedly mandated the use of a new, three-quarter inch spacer on the bottom of the pop-off valve starting with the Detroit Grand Prix weekend.

"Unsure of the effects of this change, Ford-Cosworth Racing asked its teams to "stand down" at the start of the first practice session. After discussions with CART and the Ford team owners, it was decided to allow the Ford teams to go out after a delay of one hour and 25 minutes."
