Memo Gidley will drive two races (Detroit & Mid-Ohio) for the Herdez/Payton-Coyne Racing Team. Today was his first appearance with the team. Memo Gidley, Car #71 Herdez/Payton-Coyne Racing Team: "After four races with Walker Racing replacing Naoki Hattori in a Reynard, Hattori went back to his seat and Payton-Coyne Racing invited me to drive for them. It's always good to have two cars, because during practice you can try different things and compare, which is better for qualifying and racing. During our first practice today, the Lola chassis felt good, but we have to make some changes. This is the first time that I have driven at Belle Isle. I need to learn the track, which is not that simple at all, since it has a lot of character and a lot of different turns." Michel Jourdain Jr., Car #19 Herdez/Payton-Coyne Racing Team: "Memo is welcome on our team," said Jourdain Jr., who again had a very loose car. "We tried several things, but nothing worked. I hope tomorrow we will have a better car." Antonio Marron, Motorsports Director of the Herdez/Payton-Coyne Racing Team: "Payton-Coyne Racing offered us the opportunity to have a second car, to compare notes with Michel and get better settings. They thought of Tarso Marques, but due to his contractual obligations with Penske, it seems to be that at least during August he could not drive for us. Thus, the team decided to go with Gidley."
