Six Toyotas in top 9 in Denver provisional qualifying.
Christian Fittipaldi was second today to lead a Toyota contingent that saw six of the top nine qualifiers powered by the manufacturer at today's provisional qualifying for Sunday's Denver Grand Prix.
Scott Dixon, carrying Coors Light colors this weekend, was fourth, with CART points leader Cristiano da Matta (fifth) making it three Toyotas in the top five. Bruno Junqueira (sixth), Oriol Servia (seventh) and Kenny Brack (ninth) also earned top-10 honors.
If he can maintain his second position in qualifying,Christian Fittipaldi will match his best starting position of the season set at Mid-Ohio. To date, Fittipaldi has six top-five starting positions this year.
Two other Toyota-powered drivers are on pace to earn or match their top qualifying positions of the season. Scott Dixon is on pace to match his best starting spot of fourthat Milwaukee and Portland, while Oriol Servia can surpass his best starting spot of ninth at Road America if he can maintain his seventh-place position.
After being fastest in this morning's practice sessions, Toyota-powered cars have now turned the fastest lap in 30 of the last 38 road course practice and qualifying sessions this season.
After today's qualifying session, Cristiano da Matta's magic number to clinch this year's CART chamionship fell to 81. Any combination of da Matta scoring points or the second-place driver not scoring maximum points equaling 81 will give him the 2002 CART title.
