Bourdais & Junqueira To Start 1-2 in Centrix Financial GP of Denver
Sebastien Bourdais, No. 2 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone:
"The McDonald's car has been great since it was unloaded from the truck. I think I put my best lap of the weekend together at the right moment. Yesterday's lap would have been good enough to keep pole. I might have tried too hard but it is good for the team to win the pole by beating our own time. The baseline setup of the car has been good, we only really changed the wing angle really so it has been a much easier weekend in Denver this year. I struggled here last year at this time so it is good to have such a good weekend so far. Tomorrow is another day but I hope it is sunny and successful for us. I think it will be a full throttle race because they changed the pit rules. It is now much more fair for everybody."
* FAST FACTS: Will be his second race here...Started third and finished second to teammate Junqueira last year...Has won four races and five poles so far this season...Leads the point standings with 215...Today's pole was his 10TH in his 27th Champ Car event as well as his FIFTH of the season after having also earned the pole in Monterrey, Portland, Toronto and Elkhart Lake...The point he earned for today's pole was his eighth bonus point of the season...It will be his 13th front row (top-two) start...With his Denver starting position, he set a series record for the most top-three start (nine) to begin a season.
Bruno Junqueira, No. 6 PacifiCare Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone:
"I have been struggling at this race. I didn't in Road America (last weekend) but this weekend has been more difficult for the PacifiCare team. Bridgestone brought a softer tire and it is faster but the setup from last year is not working for us this year so we have been making changes. I was able to put a reasonable lap together to be P2 (position two) but I hope we can keep improving the car for the race. This is one of the most difficult tracks of the year because of the altitude and two different types of surface on the track. They (promoter) made some changes to the track and I like them. I think it's nice that every year they are trying to improve the track. The promotion of the race has been fantastic. I hope tomorrow there is good weather, a great crowd and an exiting race. It's going to be like qualifying every lap in the race. The Push to Pass button will add more excitement on top of that."
* FAST FACTS: Will be his third race here. Won from pole in both events held here 0x2022 one with Ganassi Racing and one with NHR. Led all 100 laps in 2002 and 76 of 100 in 2003...Is second in the point standings with 166.
* NEWMAN/HAAS RACING FACTS: NHR has won ONE race (Junqueira 2003) and THREE poles in Denver (Bourdais 2004; Junqueira 2003; Michael Andretti 1991*) and they have earned a total of four podium finishes (2nd 0x2022 Bourdais 2003; 3rd 0x2022 da Matta 2002). *Different track configuration than currently used.
Today was the team's 83rd pole...It is the 20TH pole in the past 42 Champ Car events for the team...Beginning with Cristiano da Matta's victory in Australia of '01, NHR has won 18 of the past 47 races.
