CHAMPCAR/CART: Denver: Nelson Philippe preview

Denver Rewind: The 2006 Grand Prix of Denver will be Philippe's third start on the twisty street circuit. His best result came last year when he earned his third top ten of the season and finished ninth. Philippe has set a new career standard this year, he earned his first podium earlier in the season at Milwaukee and his third top-five finish two weeks ago in San Jose when he finished second. Week in and week out, Philippe competes with the leaders for track space at the front of the pack and podium finishes.

What to Watch for in Denver: The 1.65-mile street circuit in Denver features nine turns. CTE Racing HVM driver Nelson Philippe will shift 24 times per lap. His top speed will be 175 mph on the back straight and fans should keep their eye on turn nine as that is the area Philippe will likely make the majority of his passes.

Nelson Philippe on Denver: "The whole team is excited to get back to Denver. The team has had a very good car in previous years and I enjoy racing on the circuit, so it should be a good weekend for us. We had another good test at Road America last week and it has given the team even more confidence as we continue to look for another podium finish and my first win this season. With only a handful of races left in the 2006 Champ Car season, we need to concentrate on the points battle. Maximizing every opportunity for points will be of paramount importance each race weekend. I am very saddened about what happened to Cristiano (da Matta) last week, it will be tough not to have one of my best friends out there on the track. I know he is recovering with his family at his side and my thoughts go out to them and the entire RuSPORT organization."
