MICHEL JOURDAIN, JR. SCORES HIS 12TH TOP 10 RESULT OF THE SEASON - Team Rahal drivers Michel Jourdain, Jr., and Jimmy Vasser both scored top 10 finishes in today's inaugural Shell Grand Prix of Denver on the streets of the Mile High city. Jourdain finished ninth to score championship points for the 14th consecutive race this season, while Vasser finished 10th to record his ninth top 10 result. Bruno Junquiera won his second race of the season (Motegi), followed by teammate Scott Dixon in second and points leader Cristiano da Matta in third.
MICHEL JOURDAIN, JR. (#9 Gigante Ford) - Finished 9th
"It was one of those races where everybody thinks that everybody is going to crash or drop out and nobody does. We went out trying to finish and a lot of people finished. We gained one position but we lost one position late in the race trying to pit early. We qualified a little bit better this weekend but we ended up in the same position that we have been in before. I think we're making progress so we've just got to keep working at it. We need to continue qualifying better and hopefully a podium finish will come soon."
TALK ABOUT MAKING THE CHANGE FROM ROAD AND STREET COURSES TO THE OVAL IN ROCKINGHAM. "We haven't done so good on the ovals so far this year so hopefully we'll be better at Rockingham. It's a very, very fast place and it's going to be difficult."
JIMMY VASSER (#8 Shell Ford) - Finished 10th
"We just can't get any kind of a flow and I'm almost never really able to go and run behind other guys. There's guys that come out of the pits on cold tires with full tanks right in front of me all the time and I just can't get into a flow. We made some changes to the car and it was better for the race and our goal was to finish. We had reliability but it looked like everybody did."
ALEX TAGLIANI (#33 Player's/Indeck Ford) - Finished 12th
"It was a tough day and I'm very disappointed because the car was not competitive and this is not the kind of race that I like to do. I want to run and fight for positions up front and obviously today we didn't have the car to do that today."
MARIO DOMINGUEZ (#55 Herdez Ford) - Finished 14th
"To tell you the truth I think our strategy was a little too conservative and it should have paid off but we finished the race and that's always good."
WHAT HAPPENED OUT THERE BETWEEN YOU AND TORA TAKAGI? "He was trying to pass me for several laps and I didn't think he was going to make a move there. Then he made the move and there wasn't enough room for two cars through there. I'm really surprised that this many cars finished because I was sure that more would've either crashed out or dropped out with engine problems."
