FORT WORTH-DALLAS (Nov. 30, 2000) - The first ever Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) event at Texas Motor Speedway is set for April 29, 2001. Another step in preparation for the CART FedEx Championship Series Texas 600k has been taken with the announcement of a December 18 CART testing session at Texas Motor Speedway.

CART President of Racing Operations Hal Whiteford has confirmed the closed testing session in an official letter to Texas Motor Speedway.

"This should put an end to these erroneous reports that the Texas 600k was in jeopardy of being cancelled or moved to our road course," speedway general manager Eddie Gossage said. "As we've said all along, the race is on target, and CART has begun its technical development for this event. We look forward to seeing drivers from all points around the globe coming to The Great American Speedway for this huge event."

The Texas 600k will be the longest race on the 2001 CART FedEx Championship circuit. Tickets for the first ever CART FedEx Championship Series race are available by calling the speedway ticket hotline at (817) 215-8500 or online at www.texasmotorspeedway.com.
