Dan Wheldon has been selected to join the CART FedEx Championship Series All-Star Celebration in Monterey, California on 7 February.

The glittering function is a highlight of the CART FedEx Championship Series Sneak Preview which is set for 7-10 February at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Wheldon is one of only three drivers from last year's CART Dayton Indy Lights series to be short-listed for the prestigious Mario Andretti Trophy which will be presented at the All-Star Celebration.

His selection is in recognition of his runner-up position in the 2000 Indy Lights Championship, his 'Rookie of the Year' title and his Bosch Platinum+4 Speedway Challenge title for the best results on oval tracks last year.

The 23-year old Briton has had a phenomenal run of results since moving to the USA at the beginning of 1999 -- he won the US Formula Ford 2000 Championship; was runner-up in the CART Toyota Atlantic Championship with PPI Motorsports in 2000 and last year was second in the CART Dayton Indy Lights series, driving for PacWest Racing. These results have given Dan Wheldon three consecutive 'Rookie of the Year' titles!

Last season Dan Wheldon also had his first experience of a Champ Car when he demonstrated a Reynard-Ford on the new oval circuit at Rockingham in England.

In January this year, Dan Wheldon was presented with the Earl Howe Trophy at the Autosport International exhibition. The award recognises Wheldon as the most successful British driver to race in North America last season.

Dan Wheldon's presence at the CART FedEx Championship Series All-Star Celebration in February will further recognise his burgeoning career which he hopes to advance again in 2002.
