CTE Racing -- HVM Portland Test A Success
Indianapolis, IN (April 17, 2006)- CTE Racing-HVM's Nelson Philippe and rookie 'Speedy' Dan Clarke showed their competitive edge by finishing ninth and tenth at the two day Champ Car test at Portland International Raceway last week.
Nelson Philippe (#4 CTE Racing -- HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) had a solid run on the challenging 1.969 -- mile road course finishing ninth in a 17-driver field. Philippe posted a best lap time of 57.680 seconds and was optimistic after the two-day regiment, "The test was definitely positive for us. We are still lacking speed but we made several steps in the right direction. The team and I tried several adjustments to the car, some were good, some not so good, some of the information we think will help us at other tracks even though it may not help at Portland, so we really got the most out of our test day and stayed within the top-ten, so I am pleased." He is also pleased with the continuing development of his relationship with his new team, "this is only our third time working together and I am very happy with my team. My engineer and I are working very well together and Dan and I are developing a great relationship. When I was out of the car I would help him and vice versa, he would give me information as well, a strong relationship with your teammate is very important and I can see Dan and I are going to have a good season together. "Speedy Dan" is really speedy, he is going to make me work hard and I couldn't be happier about that."
Rookie Dan Clarke (#14 CTE Racing -- HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone) is proving speedy is more than a nickname, he posted a best lap time of 58.346 at test, the second of his new Champ Car career, and was the quickest all seven rookies that took to the course on day one, he finished the test tenth overall. Clarke commented on his progress, "The test was hard work and I am happy that we accomplished a lot as a team, and that it was also a very good opportunity for me to familiarize myself with the car on a road course where we compete. The Portland track is fast and flowing, I enjoyed it, and I like the fact that there were no crazy barriers on either side of me all the way around the circuit! Long Beach was the second time I have competed on a street circuit, so it felt good to get back to what I am used to. Our times were consistent, both Nelson and I ran in the top-ten throughout the test and I was the fastest Rookie on the first day, which is a good benchmark for me. I am really excited to return to this circuit and I am also anxiously awaiting my first go at the oval in Milwaukee, I've never driven on oval, lots of round a bouts but never an oval and I am looking forward to it!"
CTE-HVM returned to their Indianapolis headquarters to prepare for Clarke's test at the Milwaukee Mile just before round 2 of the 2006 Champ Car World Series, the inaugural Grand Prix of Houston at Reliant Park, May 11-13, 2006.
