Corby, England - Team KOOL Green driver Dario Franchitti heads home to the United Kingdom for this weekend's Rockingham 500. With two CART victories to his credit in 2002, Franchitti, a Scottish national, is hoping to post his third win of the season, and first on an oval track, in front of his hometown fans. Paul Tracy, who has raced a total of 31,903.319 miles in his CART career, is looking for his twentieth CART victory (see TKG Notebook below).
26 - Paul Tracy
(Started 11th finished 6th at Rockingham in 2001; Currently 7th in the standings with 86 points)
"I'm ready to be heading back to an oval. Team KOOL Green has had some success on the ovals this year with my win in Milwaukee and Dario's pole in Chicago, and we've run strong on other events like Motegi. Rockingham is a tight track that is very fast. It will be nice to get some good track time there. Last year we had almost no time on the track before the race and what a race it was. The fans in England left last year's race ready for more and hopefully we can put on another great show."
27 - Dario Franchitti
(Started 6th finished 9th at Rockingham in 2001; Currently 3rd in the standings with 106 points)
"Last year the crowd at Rockingham got their first look at Champ Car racing and it was great to be able to put on a good show for them. The British are extremely passionate and knowledgeable race fans and they were very supportive last year. I'm really looking forward to racing for Team KOOL Green in the UK again. It's the only opportunity for my friends and family to have a chance to go out and see me race without having to journey overseas. It's great to be able to get back to where it all started for me. It feels like I'm getting back to my roots. Paul (Tracy) talks about how good it is every time he gets a chance to race in Canada and I think if you ask any non-American driver what its like to race in their home country, they'll tell you that it feels extraordinarily special."
Barry Green - Team Owner
"Team KOOL Green is coming off of a tough weekend in Denver, but one of our strengths as a team is our ability to put that behind us and move forward. We have run well on the ovals this year and we need to continue that success. This is Dario's home race and I know he is excited to compete in front of his countrymen. Team KOOL Green is going to work hard to put him on top of the podium this weekend, and it would be nice to have both TKG drivers up there."
Team KOOL Green's Dario Franchitti arrives in Corby for the Rockingham 500 as one of only two native drivers at the event. Besides his Champ Car schedule of activities and media commitments, the Edinburgh-born Franchitti will be busy with friends and family, many of whom only get to see the TKG driver race live each year at this event.
Franchitti is not the only British subject on TKG. Data and damper engineer Stu Kenworthy hails from Huddersfield, England while Franchitti's chief engineer Allen McDonald is from London. McDonald points out that one of his most memorable engineering jobs while living across the Atlantic was designing the circular staircase in Formula One czar Bernie Ecclestone's home!
With 19 career wins to his credit Paul Tracy will be looking to add his 20th to the books at Rockingham. Tracy will also be attempting to bring his record for oval wins in line with his victories for street courses. Tracy has won seven oval races and eight street course races since joining CART. On road courses Tracy has been top dog a total of four times.
